Is there a tutorial anywhere on how to troubleshoot "backup game" freezing?

hi ghostrider99999 and welcome to xbox-hq..
Well, Ive been backing up for over a year and a half and never have problems. Ive never heared of any problems either.. Are you sure you are backing up correctly?
Are you running off the HDD or off a DVD-R or CDR/RW?
Are your other games working fine..? Do they all freeze.
This is the first backup I have had a freezing issue with. Here is a couple of posts I recently put on another forum. Any advice would be appreciated:
I have recently experienced my first freezing issue with one of my backup games, Thief. The game was working fine, both the backup disc and off the HDD, but now freezes up when loading the training mission.
As per the tutorial, I have deleted all the cashe files but I have noticed something that may or may not be correlated to this issue.
I reset my EEPROM a few weeks ago and now there are several EEPROMBackup files on my e:/ drive. I have successfully played this game on backup since the EEPROM backup, however could these files be the problem for a freeze? Also, since I do have access once again to XBL, do I need these EEPROMbackup files or can I simply delete them (or maybe just save them to my PC and delete them from e:/)?
I've ruled out steps 1 through 4 in Guide 1 to troubleshooting game backups, now I'm left with asking is there a patch required for this game (step 5)? Or maybe should I delete saved game files (step 6)? Oddly enough, when this freezing issue occured, I had no choice but to start a new game although I had saved the game in the past (maybe a bad save)?
I'm guessing, but from what I have read the solution to our issue may be in deleting some game files in e:\\TDATA and e:\\UDATA.
As per the tutorial, I used XSaveMgr and deleted the Deadly Shadows files. The game still freezes up.
Do I need to delete all saved files, including those from other games? I'm guessing not. There are however, two saved files I don't recognize named: Online Updater Application and OXM Disc 20. Should I delete these 2 files? What is their purpose, where did they come from?
According to the tutorial, this is what I have done:
1. IGR = no.
2. I've used dvd2xbox to backup the game on my HDD.
3. I've reset the system clock.
4. I cleared all CACHE files from e:/
5. I don't believe a patch is needed since the name "Deadly Shadows" shows up in e:/games (although maybe I'm wrong here)?
6. I deleted Deadly Shadows saves using XSaves Mgr
What else can the issue be causing a "freeze" at the tutorial loading part of this game?

I know this is a simplistic question, but did you try to backup the game again?
I mean, just wipe out the game that is freezing and try again.
I had an issue with one game so, I tried again and it worked second time around.
I also tried to backup a game once with PxHDD loader and it failed, only to succeed with DVD2Xbox, so I usually try two backup apps if an issue arises.
Keep us posted.
I have also heard where games hang up and patches do help, although I don't know if this is the scenerio for your fix. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

I've got the same problem. And I tried the same solutions as you did (1 to 6) without any chance. The only difference with you ghostrider99999 is that I have my copy of Thief on a DVD.
And actually I got the same problem with 2 other games : another from Eidos Deus Ex and Splinter Cells. It locks up when the xbox is trying to load the level of anyone of those games.
I ressently change my version of Evox so I though it could be related but I didn't find out why.
Anyone can help ?

I have not yet tried to backup the game, and maybe it was a bad backup so I will re-burn a backup and see what happens. If this doesn't solve the freezing problem with "Thief", I will also make some backups of other Eidos games to see if there is a correlation between game freezing with those particular games (Eidos games) vs non-Eidos games I am backing up. This may be a silly hypothesis, but hey maybe Eidos has thrown a monkey wrench into their game code to try and avoid game backups!!!
I will keep you posted of my results.
Any other comments or feedback is appreciated.

Hey man, thanks for the update.
I have Thief backed up on two machines with no issues whatsoever. I backed up using PxHDD Loader..I'll have to grab my version. I didn't need to patch it or anything other than what PxHDD Loader already did.
