ok, I have everything set, and I tested out my cd on a crappy hd from an old computer of mine. The CD formatted the C and E drives just fine, but when I tried to lock it, it said that the ATA security spec was not supported.
Also, how do you get your old harddrive out of your xbox???? I couldn't even budge it, and I couldn't find any screws...

but if you can't lock that hard drive, get your self another one, cause that one will not work on your softmodded system.

you've got to be joking, there HAS to be a way to lock it...
it says that "this drive does not support ATA security spec" but since it's an ATA drive, it's obviously not the HD that's the problem, could it be my CD-rom drive?

Have you completly wiped the new hdd? Any windows files will effect how you can format and lock your hdd. And I am assuming that you have your xbox's eeprom on the cd or a floppy disc..

yes, I have my eeprom.bin in my eeprom folder on my cd-rom, I have double/triple/quadruple checked, my HD was brand new when I tried this, and it formatted and partitioned the drives just fine, but when I go to lock it, it says "Error: this drive does not support ATA security spec"
I KNOW it can't be a problem with the HD now, because in the loadup it says the HD is "Maxtor ####s ATA...." so I'm thinking that my cd-rom drive can't read my cd-rom right, can anyone verify this?

I dont think it might be the Disk maybe its something else. It might be the your hard dirve that it cant communicate with your motherboard. Did you put the jumper right to master.
Are you tiring to format it on your computer using AID or in your XBOX?

I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that I read on one of the xbox forums that not all drives are lockable/unlockable.

I can almost guarantee that it is the drive. I tried to lock a 120GB Western Digital drive (Brand new) for a softmod that i was doing for a buddy, and no matter what i tried IT WOULDN'T LOCK FOR SHIT!!!! Trust me, some HDD's just don't lock, and that's all there is to it. Sorry pal, but nknave is right. Get yourself a new one. _________________ Predtech

Listen up newbie, i don't care who your friends with, i'm TELLING you it's the drive. I have been doing this way too long to not know what the problem is. I'm trying to help your friend out by telling him what the problem is, so keep your nose out of it, NEWBIE.
Next time i want your opinion, i'll give it to you. _________________ Predtech

just my 2 cents:
Not all HDD's can be locked to the XBOX CONSOLE.
Do a search.. Enter your drive if it is not in the list..

So they are exact same brand and model.. Double check..
If they are the same and your mates have been locked you may have done something wrong and may need to do the procedure again..
