And, I am betting you are getting error code 05 with it correct?

A softmodded Xbox doesn't have the luxury like a chipped machine to boot an unlocked HD.

So, what you have to do is the hotswap method.

Please go to our tutorial section and look up Pirrup's tutorial on the hotswap. If you would have used a mod chip, all you would have to do is pop the drive in and all would be well.

A softmod is files/exploits residing on the HD. If you remove the HD obviously the hacks are gone. At least that's how I understand it. I'm not much of a softmodder. The concept is rather easy, but for me just to pop a chip in a machine and then throw in a HD and run AID is a much simpler process Wink

Good luck getting your new HD configured.

I will move this post to the softmod section in hopes that it will get more attention by our softmodders.

Do you have your other HD?? The one that you was used for the original softmod??

If so, here is the tutorial that I am talking about:

a softmodded xbox needs a locked hd ( same as a retail xbox)
so when creating a hd for use with softmod you need to lock it with the eeprom from the retail xbox .

just follow my tutorial on upgrading a hd using a pc :

http://xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-153.html

cheers

That turorial is first rate mate!! Way to go!! That is awesome. It's nice to know we have knowledgable people here. I am so softmod challenged, and this tutorial is a piece of cake.

To me, installing a chip seems much easier, but for those who are softmod savvy there is now a way to handle the HD upgrade.

How does this work on larger HDs since there really isn't any hacked bios' being used. Doesn't the MS bios cap out at like 137GB?? I'm still not 100% sure how a softmod works so I may be missing something.

When a softmod is running, is it not running with the retail kernel? It's just booting a hacked dash that was instsalled in place of the MS dash..correct?

you need the old one , because that one is locked with the correct eeprom

you can't use another locked hd from other xbox

modgod yea it works great with big hd's as the PBL bios and the nkpatcher can handle big hd's.

cheers

pirrup

You can use it in other boxes once it is locked to the eeprom of the new box.
All softmods require, with no exception, a locked hard drive. You would have to have a chipped box to use that HDD.

Basically the eeprom holds your personal xbox info. Make a backup from EvoX which can be found in system settings. Then follow pirrup's tutorial.

The Xbox stores some permanent information such as the serial number, the HD key and the region code in a 256 byte serial EEPROM accessible through the SMBus
