Hey gang, I have a PC that will be two years old in May. So, it's about 15 months old.
It's an HP Media Center PC. Pentium IV 2.53 Ghz processor. It came with 512 MB of DDR Ram, but I upgraded to 1024MB. It has a 120GB HD. It has a CDROM drive and a CDR/RW DVD DL Combo Drive (memorex) 16x DVD burning.
It's got the newest OS as I upgraded to the Windows 2005 Media Center Edition and can furnish you with the disk incase you ever have to restore the PC.
For those who dont' know anything about the media center PCs, this PC has a built in DVR (Digital Video Recording) card that allows you to turn your PC into a TIVO machine. It's a free service unlike the 13.00 fee that Tivo makes you pay.
Media Center 2005 is an incredible OS. It is compatible with Xbox Media Center extender Kits so you can even stream content right to your Xbox
You cant turn your Xbox into a tivo machine any easier than using this PC and the extender kit!! Very simple. It configures for you. You can have up to 5 instances running at one time even!
Stream internet radio, video, all kinds of stuff right to the Xbox.
This machine has setup for connecting two monitors up at one time. Has SVideo inputs and outputs, coaxial cable, and rca jacks for video/audio. capable of 5.1, 4.1, 3.1 and 2.1 sound output.
Has four different mem stick/card slots
Has Two USB and one Firewire port in the front, and has three USB ports in the rear.
Three months ago I replaced the power supply as the fan was making a rattling noise and was afraid it was going to fail.
Of course this model is now discontinued, but that's what happens to all PCs after a year and the new models come out.
It comes with keyboard, mouse, remote control and remote receiver unit.
If you look at the ratings from the webpage, remember these were three ratings by individuals, not pro's. These were also rated when the pc was first released. When this PC was first released, the media center OS was not as functional as it is now. It's much much more robust. For instance, before if you wanted to rewind a show the fastest it would rewind was like 4X. Now it goes up to 300X which is sweet as hell. You can set all kinds of recording options. I like the fact that I record all my shows (first runs only is what I choose) and I never have to worry about missing a show. If I am working, it just records it without even interupting me working. Don't even know it's recording. Takes none of the resources away.
Comes with some nice DVD burning software too. You can easily convert anything recorded right to DVD. Also since firewire port is available you can hook up a digital camcorder and capture video. So easy to do, first time I tried I did it without issues. Took me about ten minutes to figure it out.
Also, there is a new bios that I installed.
This PC has some serious life, and the only reason I am replacing is because my work depends on having a running PC. I neglected to purchase an extended warranty with this machine and god forbid something happened and I was down. I want peace of mind with a new machine and a very long warranty. So, I am investing a shit load of money into another HP Media Center PC, but paying out the nose for a long term warranty.
This PC sold new for 1299.00 with no monitor or printer!
When looking at the specs, remember I upgraded the RAM and the DVD Drive.
Looking for the best offer. I am pretty sure I am buying my new PC on Saturday so this one will be available pretty quickly if anyone is interested.
Be sure to watch the video on this OS. Another cool feature I forgot to mention is the movies on demand...very sweet. Just like PPV and stuff like that... All possible right through the Media Center OS

I'm looking for Windows Media Center OS? Can I buy just the OS because my torrent download is stuck at 45% as there are no seeders.

No, I cannot sell the OS. I do not just have an OS disk(s). The way my PC is done my recovery is on the D partition. I did however elect to make a six disk set for recovery purposes in case a new HD is ever installed due to HD failure.
HP gave me that option and I was allowed to make this recovery disk set only once. Even if I restore my PC it will never allow me to make that disk set again.
The Windows 2005 Media Center Edition disk that I do have is an upgrade disk to upgrade Windows Media Center Edition 2004.
Since the OS is registered to this PC basically, nobody else would be able to really use it.
Whenever you restore the PC you have thirty days to contact MS to activate the OS. If you dont the PC locks up and cannot be used until it's activated. If someone else tried activating this OS on a different PC I am sure a red flag would be thrown, albeit they technically may not know it's for a different PC, but my luck the person who also buys this PC would need to activate at the same time due to a recovery.
Sorry I couldn't be of any help, but I think that the Media Center Software is now being sold. For the longest time you could only get it on a PC. But, I think they just sell the software. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter
