HOTSWAP:recover a hd without eeprom backup

Needed Tools:
- xboxhdm 1.9
- Torx 10 And Torx 20 Screwdrivers - To Open XBOX
- A PC(remove all hd's) ,blank CD-R/W and A CD Burner
- DVDdecryptor (http://www.dvddecrypter.com)
- C drive backup or latest MS dash

' Make sure the xbox and pc are close to echother '

Steps:
1. if you got a backup of your c you don't need to download latest msdash, if you don't got a backup download ms dash and keep it ready on your pc.

2. unpack xboxhdm onto your pc .

3. put ms dash in the C folder into the xboxhdmlinux folder and overwrite the ones already there.

4. In the root of xboxhdm is a file named 'make-iso-win', run this file and wait for it to finish.

5. It will make a .iso file. (burn this file with dvddecryptor), put the cd in the pc .

6. unplug the XBOX DVDROM IDE cable, take the power cable off the dvd-rom.

7. Turn on the PC, Before the PC BIOS looks for hard drives, hit the Pause/Break key. It should pause at this time.

8. Turn on the Xbox .

9. It will boot to an error code(nr 11) regarding the dvd-rom, but the hdd will be unlocked, this way you'll get xboxhdm to access it on first attempt Now remove ide from hd and swap it to the pc

10. Hit space bar to continue booting the PC. If it takes a long time to boot (several minutes), then the HD has not been unlocked.

11. you will get a menu, now choose Option 1 (by typing ‘1’) and press enter to boot VGA console with xbox-drive utilities (default). Type ‘xboxhd’ when it asks you for a login. Another list of options will show up, choose option 1 again (the one that says ‘Build a new Xbox HD from scratch’) and it will begin to format and write the partition table etc. when it asks you about C type yes and when it asks you if you would like an F select yes .

12. power down pc and xbox.

13. put the hd back in the xbox and boot.

Nice you just recovered your hard drive !!!

PS if you get a msg about a frozen drive , just disable auto detect for the drive (xboxhdm will detect the hd even if it's disabled!)

cheers

pirrup

Is there any way to do it from a chip box to a failed softmod box without the EEprom and MS dash back-up?(assuming that i have a MS dash somewhere else)

Last thing : i've heard that it's a basic precaution to ground the PC to the Xbox with a simple wire to avoid having a fluctuation of the voltage between both.

Is it true?

Ty

Just a question out of curiosity here.

How does xboxhdm 1.9 go on a 1.6 xbox, coz it's a known fact that some linux programs don't like the different video chip. I'm assuming this is something they would've fixed ages ago though...

1. Power up the unmodded xbox and after the 8 seconds like other tutorial:
a. disconnect the the ide cable from the unmodded xbox and
b. power up the modded xbox (without the hdd hooked up) and put aid2 in the dvd tray
4. Once the 'flubber' animation finishes and the 'big x' comes up you will hear it access the dvd drive once it finds the dvd drive it will begin to search for a hdd. At this point plug in the ide from the modded xbox into the (now unlocked) hdd of the unmodded xbox.
5. At this point the modded xbox will be accessing the unmodded xbox's hdd.
6. aid will prepare the hd.

Thanks a lot Pirrup!

Is there any link yet to add this tuto to my I.E. Favorites ?

Hummm.maybe it was somewhere and i missed it? Sad

Finally, what are the risk for the Xbox(s) if the hotswap goes very bad?

Great tutorial Pirrup!! My question is pretty much the same as the previous one. What are the risks involved and how difficult is hot swapping really? I mean, what are the chances of totally frying an xbox? Thanks mate,

Jab

there is always a chance that you f#&@ up the hd, but if you don't do it your hd is also a doorstep so hotswap is the final recover way .

cheers
