Posted: Tue Jan 04, 2005 2:12 am Post subject: Help with a Spider-Chip reflash!!!
I own a spider chip. I installed it and plan on using it on a 1.6. However I flashed the wrong m8 bios onto it so now it only works on a 1.0-1.5 box. I removed it from the 1.6 box and installed it into a 1.1. However when I did this, the only recognition I received of the chip working was a "X-CHIP" below the green X when the box first boots. Then the box loads the normal M$. How do I instal the real M8 bios that I need for the 1.6 box. I ask this because I don't know how to get back to the cromwell bios of the chip. On the website it says that you will need the spider chip programmer if the xbox doesnt start with the chip on. But like I said, the box does start up. I'm basically lost with the chip. Does anyone know what I need to do to reflash this chip?? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!

Actually, the M8 bios also still says Microsoft underneath. But in the upper left hand corner in most cases there is a redish logo that says EvoX. Some people though, found out how to remove that logo so don't bank on that being there.
The M8 bios for the 1.6 is available here in our VIP download section. If you are not a VIP and prefer not to donate to become one, then you can find via bit torrents, file sharing programs, some over seas websites, mIRC, and direct connect hubs.
I have never personally installed a spider chip so I am sorry I don't know it's flashing procedure.

Your going to need to flash it thru evox or some other flash utitilty on the V1.0-1.5 xbox

So do i need to use one of my friend's modded (chipped) xbox? And if so ... what do i have to do? cause now i dont have any clue what app. to use . Thanks so much for the replies tho!

Hey we have the same setup. What you need to is download the Evox m8 Bios for the 1.6. It's in the download section. Burn it onto that same disck that you used before (CDRW). Then try booting it and see what happens.
If that does not work you will have to use your friend's box and boot it with your hard drive in it. Once everything boots fine you then can download the AID 101 from the auto istallers folder in downloads. Dude do not use the old version. Doing this will set you back if you are planning to use a large HDD later. Once you have the AID software on YOUR HDD you shoulde be able to choose to boot from the chip then you can reflash it.

okay sounds like a plan ... however I'm staring at both boxes with my friend and he just said that a friend of his at college had a very similar problem. They tried a similar technique and (because it was an X3 supposedly) the hard drive got fragged so know his friend just has a 160 gb paper weight. Does anyone know if the X3 has some setting that needs to be accessed/change/whatever to do tihs? Or is it ok to do it anyway?

Supposedly it was might have been something with the eeprom. got locked by two differents ones or something? My friend really doesn't know how it happened cause it already had an eeprom on it then they mistakenly put another on it. I dont see why it wouldnt have just rewrote it but i dont know lol.

Okay ... So currently I'm trying to get a hold of a 1.0-1.5 non modded xbox of one of my friends. I downloaded AID101 finally and got that on a dvd. I'm going to install the spider chip into it, load AID101, then can i just choose to reflash the chip there? and pop the chip back in my 1,6 or should i just format the hd while im at it? Cause will the hd being in a different box effect anything to do with the eeprom???? Thats my main concern right now if the whole hd being in a different box will mess it up! Does anyone know if its okay in a different box wihile trying this?
