Gidday, I just modded a v1.6b (with Hynix Ram) and used the M81.6plus BIOS. Everything works fine except the modchip BIOS sometimes hangs during bootup, before the LED changes colour from Orange to (my customised) Red. Not even the 'X' logo will appear. After a few switch offs and ons it boots properly. I have resoldered everything 5 times already and still same result. This is my 6th 1.6 xbox mod, and none of the others have had this problem and its driving me crazy. Only thing I can think of is if I swapped around the DVD power cable with another xbox's which I may have done yesterday, would that cause the problem? It does seem to be DVD related, as sometimes if you push the eject button while its hanging, it will start to boot up. I have customised the BIOS using EVTOOL and unchecked DVD check but it didnt help either. ALSO, sometimes evoX will tell me the BIOS has changed (same startup but different BIOS name is displayed) and I dont know why, and I dont recognise the MD5 key for any of my BIOS's. But resetting brings up the correct BIOS name. Weird huh. Any ideas??? thanks.

Hmm, I would start by re-flashing it, get the bios from somewhere different, try xbins or somethin, if that don't fix it then it may be a buggered chip, I have had a fair few dodgy xt's in the past, I would also try bridging the X solder point on the chip as per the installation diagrams.
What sst chip is on there? does it end with an A? as all the ones I had probs with did, no matter what I did with Md5's etc, they still would not boot properly. it will boot to the X screen regardless of whether the dvd drive is plugged in, it just won't get further. the fact it changes says to me it's a chip or bios prob, but dunno not being able to play with it.

i really dislike the aladdin chips ,
it even takes its own programmer 2 or 3 tries to write the bios onto the
chip without any errors ,
not to mention the time it takes the programmer to flash the bios ...20min

Thanks guys, I know Aladdins can be annoying as, thats why they are so cheap! But they can be a good cheap option, just have to put up with the occasional pIss around. I have tried multiple bios's, but havent tried another chip yet so Im going to do that now, and if it doesnt work then I'll bridge X and tinkle with the LPC rebuild PCB again.
Thats crazy that the aladdin programmer takes 20mins to flash bios, it only takes 10 seconds to flash from xFlash app on xbox. Never tried the xternal flasher myself.
Hey Custom-Xmodz, sounds like you are doing exactly the same thing as me, but in UK obviously. hows it all going for ya? have you got an easier way to clear the xbox jewel instead of rubbing it with mineral turps for an hour? Its my most requested mod and Im sick of it! There must be an easier way.

bit of a tip, I used to build my premods with aladdins, after about 30 of them I had 5 chips that had been faulty, I would use the DuoX2, same price, 2 bios banks and a much better chip (quicker to solder BT point too)
But now I stock most chips so ppl can choose.
things ain't too bad, just opened an online shop but waiting to get higher in google etc, I just use brake cleaner for the jewels.

nope, didnt work, still confused. SOMETIMES when its hanging there, I can push Eject and it will boot..... so I figure it must be something to do with dvdcheck in BIOS, so I have tried DVDcheck enabled and disabled using EVTOOL but doesnt help either way. Will try bridging X next, cant remember what to bridge to though, is it just X to GND? or D0 to GND, or X to D0?
BTW, I was using 49LF020's but now have all 49LF020A's. They seem better quality, but same old problems. xFlash has no trouble flashing them though.
So just need to know where to bridge X to on 1.6. Cheers.

Na I emailed Jolon at Robotpig where i bought them from and he said that the old 4032 chips aren't actually 100% compatible with 1.6b, so Im gonna buy some DUO2X purely for 1.6's.
He said this:
"yes the old XT 4032 chips are not compatible with v1.6b, its a problem with the code. XT 4032 have since updated the code and are now compatible with v1.6b machines as long as you are using the correct bios. So if you do have the latest chips with the updated code, the only reason why they wouldnt work is due to an incorrect bios. DuoX 2 will also work in the v1.6b machines with the correct bios."
So there you have it. Hope this saves someone else the time pissing around trying to find the answers.

Use Aladdin FLash ISO and use Yoshihiro BIOS for 1.6. Half the problem with chips is they are mainly copies with old code. The other half of the problems is there are too many with bad M8 and M8+ bioses.
Download the Flash ISO in downloads on this site, follow the simple guidelines and you will NEVER have a problem with your chip.
I will flash any chips free of charge copies or not to put an end to all of this nonsence. Because I understand your problems...
For three years I imported and exported chips, late last year I started installing cos there were many problems... ALL those problems are now fixed. I guarantee you if you have a shitty XT or Aladdin Live chip it is a copy!!
I guarantee you too first time everytime when you use this ISO and flash with the correct BIOS... ALADDIN RED for 1.0 - 1.5 and Yosh or Yoshihiro for 1.6 A & B. so simple. the days of bad bios and bad installations are gone.
