i have a crossover cable connected to my xbox from a network card on a pc that runs windows98SE. my evox boot disk booted perfectly. when i go into the settings menu in evox, i see "no link". i am getting flashing lights on both the pc and xbox's network cards. i try to ping into my xbox, but it fails all attempts. i'm going crazy. my evox.ini settings are as follows:
I can't connect-timed out. Here are the setting below. I set my PC IP at 192.168.201, no firewall running xp. Any help would be awesome
Type nothing there
IP 0.0.0.0
Line Status 100/duplex
set up Network yes
use Static yes
IP 192.168.200
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS 0.0.0.0
It only says exit at the bottom, not save and exit.

I had a similar problem, except I use a hub.
At first I got flashing lights like you said, it was a problem with the cable that I made. I put new ends on it. After that I could ping all day long. But I still souldnt transmit files, it would time out every time.
What did I do?
I used a diffrent cable.
I had a 50ft cable that went around my living room to the xbox, but now, till I get the problem fixed, I put my xbox next to my PC when I want to transfer files and use a shorter cable that I had laying around.
As long as you have the video cable plugged in you dont need the TV. just boot the xbox with CAT5 cable already in, wait a few seconds to make sure the dash and FTP server has started, then try.
I had so mch trouble with this for the longest time because I havt had a problem with the CAT5 cables I have put together ever. So I was too stubborn to admit the cable was the problem. Come to find out that it wasnt my ends, but the cable itself that was the problem.
Give a diffrent cable a try and see what happens. X-over cable that is...
Remember that for X-over your IP needs to be 192.168.0.x (x=a number the other computer is not)
