Hey guys, new guy here.

Got my hands on original Xbox (v1.6 I believe), but it's mostly dead.
The symptoms are probably familiar to some of you, not so much for me:
it boots 3 times, on the 3rd time it stays on and flashing red and orange light. Both DVD and fan work as far as I know.

Any suggestions on how I might be able to fix it? Never had an original Xbox and I have a thing for old consoles, so I would love to reanimate it. Thanks!

This rang a bell with me and quick Google search comes up with the problem as an old one due to multiple possible causes. Typically bad soldering in a TSOP or chipped Xbox, damaged traces, bad BIOS flash...................

I can't give any advice on this as I've not had to confront the same problem but I suggest you first find out whether your Xbox is chipped, TSOP or softmod and that will almost certainly mean opening it up.

If the stickers on the bottom of the Xbox (over two screws) haven't been broken it is probably softmodded or maybe even still retail state. So look for solutions that don't have anything to do with chip/TSOP flashing or other related problems.

Sorry I can't be more help.

All the forums with posts about the LED flashing error codes don't mention flashing red/orange. But, I have seen this error shown by Floydzabarber when he's adding additional RAM (13m35s - 15m35s) to non-1.6 Xbox's (no solder pads for the additional 4 chips are present on a v1.6 Xbox).

He gets this error when a memory error occurs with only 1, 2 or 3 of the 4 chips installed or even after all 4 chips are installed but there's a bad solder joint somewhere thus still a memory problem exists. If required, he reflows the solder on all the chips until the error goes away at which time all 128MB's of memory are functioning properly.

Therefore, flashing red/orange error code seems to indicate a problem with the DDR RAM memory on the Xbox's motherboard.
