Started off trying to mod my Xbox using the XboxHDM 1.9 and Ndure 3.1 hotswap method. Something went wrong, and instead of getting the mod, my box boots into error 13.

Now, I'm not sure what's going on, but I've tried remaking the HD from scratch with a fresh dash, but I still get the same error 13.

Burned and ran Auto Installer V3, barebones on E drive, and still, I get error 13 after yet a second HD from scratch. I've doubled checked, and the drive is locked once its all said and done. I've been using error 12 to unlock my drive for modding and rebuilding. Am I missing something? I can't find any info on this issue any where. I'm at a lost, 3 days of tring to get this thing running again with no budget and just 3 dvds left, I'm at my wit's end!

Oh, I'm running a 1.6 box with 5838 K and Dash 5960 (err.. well I was... but.....)

I can still cold boot games, and I can save games and load saved games. (Not sure if that helps, but thought I"d let ya know.")

13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.

The error it gives is because of the incompatibility between the (older) dashboard (4920) that older slayer cd installs and the new dashboard/kernel versions found in some new xbox's and found in xbox's that have been connected to xbox live (when you go on xbox-live, it'll upgrade your dashboard file to i believe it is now 5659.03. This dasboard is incompatible with the dash that (old) slayer cd installs (for example 2.5 or lower) for you.

(In detail, in the eeprom chip there is a kernel which is incompatible with the dashboard (4920) that slayer installs.)

So what do you do to fix it? You can use the dashupdate found on most new xbox games! Be sure to 1st unplug your ethernet cable before you do so!!!

Besides that, just use a good installation disc and all is fine. Use a 2.6 slayer or something similar
source...
Code:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210562
(likely an incompatibility issue along the way?)
i'm not getting involved in the hotswap, i fail at it, never mind supporting the notion!
if the console can read a backup disk (from cold boot as the retail games do) get the 'babylon' archive, expand then write that to disk using IMGBURN, 8x write speeds and after disk is written, cold boot it up on the console and take it from there! (READ all the enclosed documentation first before usage)
babylon is a 4-split 7zip, you'll require all four parts, they can be found in downloads > mods/exploits, good luck!

E13 is dash boot error. Because you can cold boot games but get the E13 it means your MS Dash is intact and possibly did mod it but no hacked dash got installed. So what you want to do is cold boot Babylon and install a dash. If you cant cold boot it (mod not intact) use Babylon to create an XBOXHDM installer and rebuild the HDD

As for what Afterdawn states its close but no cigar lol. That was back when we still used 4920 but that hasnt been the case for 7 or 8 years.

Confused
looks like some updates are required at HQ?
i'm not an expert, just pulling my weight is all!
(when i got E13, i just used XBMC installer to rectify it, babylon kills that option now! never had to recover from an E13 more than twice and that got sorted by XBMC installer before babylon was known to us/the masses)

Babylone dvd gives me an error 14, going to make an XboxHDM disc with Babylone this time and rebuild the hard drive. Be back in ... howver long that takes to edit this post with the update.

It's a no go... still getting error 13 after I rebuild with Babylone. What the heck gives?

If there's anymore insight or opinions, I'd be happy to hear them... I'm starting to loose hope! I'll be keeping my eyes on this topic, playing Batman...

Yes i bought it used, but no, I didn't check for a mod chip. Feel kinda dumb now, thanks for pointing that error out. I'll look, should it be on top of the mobo or under?

err wait, none of the stickers on bottom had been removed, and I popped them myself. Also, the foot pegs were still on good, and hadn't been removed. So no, its not.

Tried to reinsert the Babylone ISO I tried before I reformatted the HDD again, and it just jumps to the same error 13 screen as if I didn't have the disk in.

I'm thinking I have a 1.6 xbox, as I have kernel 5838. What would that affect on the modding process? Nothing? I know my hard drive is unlocked when I do the Error 12, else I'd never get to wipe and reinstall the drive itself. I'm not sure what's going on. I'm using an older dell with WinXP on it. Anything I need to look at that could be causing an issue?

I'm jobless or i'd just buy an eeprom reader and build a new drive from the 80 gig I got setting beside me. I don't have to the tools or a proper guide to build one (both of the guides I found the images were gone). If I could get enough scrap together to buy the parts needed for making an eeprom reader, what kinda wattage are we takling for soldering?

I'm really feeling limited on options. Its stressing.

One other question, if I am unable to get this modded now or fixed, and have to leave it in this condition, am I at risk of getting the error 16 (think it was 16), where the system can't update the clock after it's been cleared after a 5 hour or more state of being powered off?

Heres a hi-def video guide on doing the hotswap mod. This is using my SID based builds, if using Ndure it will be a slightly different process. If you use Babylon to make an XBOXHDM disc its exactly what you see in the vid. Just follow the included Babylon1.txt for making the disc.

I've done this. I'll do it again, but I've noticed something that might give you an idea of what's wrong.

When I'm going through the process, and its pulling up everything. At one point (around 2:11 in the video) there's a pause before it refreshes the screen. It says something along the lines of "Freeing kernel memory (some thing like 1-300), /proc something something (yeah, memory's a little fuzzy, I'll get back to ya)" Just before the screen flips over, after its sat there for near a minute, I get a quick glimpse at what I believe says "Failed due to timed out" or something to that effect. Could this be an issue? It's supposed to be reading the HDD at that point in time, right?

Here's what it sys:

freeing unsed kernel memory: 152k freed
none on /proc type proc (rw)

*****:Timed out ************************ (the *'s are letters, but I didn't make them out)

Now, to finish the wipe, heh

... Still error 13.

Is it possible to have the system's stickers in place yet still get in to mod the system? I don't believe it is. Just out of curiosity. I didn't pull the dvd drive out (don't have a long enough driver for the torx close to the side to reach it, got a small hand turner that won't fit). I just don't see what's wrong....

Its supposed to free kernel memory so thats no issue. But if its timing out before the build is complete then chances are thats the issue.

What brand of disc are you using and whats the burn speed?

As for E16 theres no worry with an NKP based mod. The req for that gets patched during the mod.

Memorex is a decent brand their made by Rite-k. Make sure you burn the disc at 8x with ImgBurn

Ok, I'm prepping to remake the Disc, and to burn it with ImgBurn (I had used Alcohol 120, might affect it somewhat. I've seen stranger). However, I won't be able to do anything till Wednesday. I'm going back home for a couple days. Hopin' when I get back, I can get it all fixed!

Cool
all the best!
.....
point of notice (unless otherwise declared) ALWAYS stick to the prescribed disk writing programs and disk write speeds!
they're that way for a reason!
i've personally tried different writing programs/write speeds where it was advised otherwise and it DIDN'T work out too well at all...
just wasted disks/time for all intents and purposes!
DO NOT DEVIATE FROM THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN THERE!
IT'S FOR A GOOD REASON! Razz
