Posted: Tue Aug 27, 2013 2:51 pm Post subject: I cant boot my XBOX
hello im new to this complicated stuff, i bought a modded xbox on ebay which worked fine. then i bought a component cable for better gfx. and i changed the video settings in the dashboard called unleashx. but it didnt change the resolution. on this xbox are some other dashboards. the original, and one called avalaunch and a third one.
then i booted the avalaunch and changed video settings there, which worked fine after rebooting in unleashx. then i changed the skin to one which had a short video. i think my video settings was ntsc mode and 1080i. and my games even some pal games worked fine. but then i started one and the screen was black and white, so i went into avalaunch again and changed something which i thought wud be the reason. but i forget what i did, i believe i changed to pal among other things.
since then my xbox dont boot anymore. just the short start video, then the xbox screen with xecuter 2. and then it stops. btw. when i put in a game dvd these games are working.
allright then i started to google and read some stuff, but for a newbie its hard to find and hard to understand.
what i did so far:
i burned a heimdalls hexen xbox engineering disc iso and started it, but i can only see the flashing start logo repeating but it will not start.
after this i burned and started frostys_xbox_rescue_disc_v1_0 and this one works, so i have ftp access at least. But i dont know what to do or change on my xbox with ftp. i just transfered all the games to my pc. and my plan was to set the xbox up completely new so that i also understand a bit more. for example why there are so many partitions like c,d,e,f,g,x,y,z.
well then i burned and started auto-installer.deluxe.v4.53.xbox, but again i can only see the flashing logo but it wont start.
if i start without any dvd there is errorcode 14.
the frostys rescue disk gave some info which i think is maybe useful for helping me. it says:
kernel 1.00.5838.01
lock disabled
bios unknown
dash version 3935
so basically this is all the information i know so far, and i believe the only way is to find a "rescue disk" which boots. well i guess it wud be easier to use the ftp but i dont know if i can set up the xbox completely new via ftp and format the hd on the xbox. i have filezilla on my pc and im using ubuntu.

Before doing anything you need to ID what BIOS you are running.
Grab the file I attached, unzip it and burn the ISO to disc. Put it in the XBOX turn it off then back on and it should boot the disc and tell you what BIOS you are running.
unfortunately it says unkown as you can see on the photo

Did you get a weird boot up before? Like a blue screen etc instead of the classic XBOX boot screen? The MD5 doesnt match any BIOS which leads me to believe its one that was home edited using an app like EVTool..
OK put that aside for now. You said you can FTP in using Frostys Boot Disc, so FTP in and grab a snapshot of the C files.

OK, FTP in and copy the following to your PC- UnleashX(folder), Dashboards(folder) items.xml, config.xml and evoxdash.xbe. Now grab either XBMC installer or Babylon and pick Return To Stock. DO NOT REMOVE THE DISC OR POWER OFF. Now FTP the files you copied back to the XBOX.

ok i copied the files and folders to the pc, downloaded the 4 babylon parts, extracted them and burned the babylon.iso to a disk. but like with the other disks i can only see the logo repeating (in this case unleashx).
edit: oh now it worked... i pressed l + r + start or back i dont know, and then it said, babylon is booting and i got the menu, and did everything you told me and now i can boot again into my xbox YAYYY!
Thanks alot im really happy now. =))
But can i now format everything and set up the xbox complety new? i mean i dont need all those skins and old savegames and stuff and all this disorder.

Yes you can. If you choose Chip HDD Prepare from the tools menu it will format the partitions and install essential files. Then go to Dashboards on click on the dash you want (will say CHIP beside it) SInce we dont know for sure what BIOS you are running I cant give a 110% guarantee the dash will work though. Im a softmod guy so 99.9% of my BIOS experience comes from porting them over to Cache BFM patch and I set up the dash install to coincide with the BIOS setup of the BIOS we have patched over for cache booting. In laymens terms this means my chip dash installs look to E AND C for the dash files, but some BIOS are picky and wont boot an xbe from E or wont join a C XBE with an E config. So my Chip dash installs if your BIOS is outside my area of comfort wont boot.
Best way to test is to do the install like stated above in this post but leave the disc in and DO NOT POWER OFF the xbox, just use REBOOT in the menu, that way even if your BIOS isnt cool with my setup, the BABYLON Cache BIOS will over-ride it and always bring you back to Babylon in case of failure allowing you to fix the issue.

its strange but the xbox checker on the xbox says using genuine bios: xecutor2 4983.06, so i guess thats correct.
btw. do i really need all those partitions? i have c,d,e,f,g,x,y,z.
c is about 500mb, d is probably the dvdrom, e is 4880mb, f is 109gb, g is 0mb and x,y,z are 750mb each.

Either G is empty or unformatted. Go into System and format G. If it still says 0 then you can disable it in the settings menu. The rest are required.C is your OS partition, E is the XBOX save partition, D is the DVD-ROM, and XYZ are pagefile partitions. F and G are storage partitions which are only seen on XBOX with an upgraded hard drive.
