hey guys im still new to the forum and slowly poking my head around through the forums and having alook at all the different projects and what not people have been doing with xbox's.
so one day i was out with a few mates and i met a guy who had a ps2 slim in his car for the kids on long trips and i thought it was pretty cool. and i asked him why he never thought of using an xbox and he said its impossible unless you get a power inverter. ever since then i had been thinking about it and i got some pin outs and came across the few videos ive seen on youtube about powering the original xbox with an atx power supply.
so then i got my thinking cap on. i looked into buying a 12v atx power supply off ebay. it was 150w and thought that it would do the job. so i soft modded the xbox and put xbmc onto it, then put a bigger hard drive into it. then finally ripped out the ac power supply and cut and changed the atx plug to fit my dc atx power supply. come time installing it i wasnt too sure how well it would go, but suprisingly it was fine and ran great, so i put all my games, music videos and dvds on it. was running in the car for about 4 months.
and about a week or 2 ago the xbox started FRAG'ing. tried everything to fix it and i failed. so i gave up. a couple days ago i got given a 360 slim 250gb with a busted cd tray and i thought it would be my next project.
so i pulled apart the 360 and fixed the tray. and now i started looking into modding the 360 to work in the car aswell without an inverter. the power brick said it puts out 135w 12v at 11 amps. and once again found the pinout and i modded the power supply and put the same dc atx power supply in it connected it to my ac to dc inverter played forza 3 for 5hrs and not an issue. and it only drew at 12v a very steady 6 amps.
so in the car it went and its been good, there is no feedback with audio or video with voltage change. but now my first hurdle that i havnt managed to come across and thought i would ask. im wanting to store my music videos and movies onto the 360. is there any custom firmware or xbmc for the 360? any sort of ideas, i dont want to use discs if i dont have to.

^^ SHIT-HOT! i've liked the idea of adding consoles into road going vehicles but it's not something i've DARED try (can't see myself doing) but smoke em if you've got em!
ANYTHING that uses hdd's in the vehicle will need a decent shock absorber setup to help reduce external vibrations impacting the hdd's (optical drives also if you use them) that's if the vehicle is in motion at the time of use.
anyway, as for the 360, you'll need to look into HARDMODDING the fucker...NO CUSTOM FIRMWARE, ALL HARDWARE! look online by searching for JTAG and RGH (reset glitch hack)...
go HERE as it's a part of HQ as a whole and is better suited to answer all your 360 juicing questions! and your profile on this site also carries over to there so NO new signup is required!
have fun, see you around!
[edit]...if you just want movies and music on the console (NO games or homebrew, just the retail stock console defaults) then a usb card should suffice! you can copy that to the console hdd via the da$h or just run as is...
creating playlists is NOT something i've looked into so...hmm?! (i don't use my 360 for media viewing, just my original xbox) still, 360-hq will help you there on that one! _________________ to all my friends... farewell and all the best to future prosperity... and remember, be excellent to each other!
