Post subject: SPPV XBMC Installer Questions (and others)

These are just some quick questions I have before I do the softmod that I want to do at the beginning of April.
1. Does the Xbox need to be softmodded already for XBMC Installer to run?
2. Does XBMC4Xbox update from the program, or do you have to FTP it?
3. How do you add XBMC themes to XBMC4Xbox?
4. How do I look for trusted sellers on Ebay?
5. Should I get emulators by FTPing or should I use a different method?
6. What is the difference between Autobuilder and Xboxhdm, other than the extra goodies that Autobuilder contains?
7. Why does everything active seem to be in the VIP section? There seems like that there is a bunch of boards that are never updated.
8. Coinops or individual emulators?
9. Does XBMC Installer have to be exactly done at 8x speed? I already done it at 4x on a DVD-R.
10. How do I change my avatar on here? I've been looking for days. Mad

10, brb with that!
1, YES! unless you created an autobuilder/xbhdm version (xbhdm/autobuilder computer usage only) YES, the console must be softmodded to run the XBMC installer/backup disk...
5, FTP is by far the best way but you can write (waste) them to disk should you choose! look up MADMAB/FBA for some good emus!
6, one is run as an application on the xbox itself and the other is created by using a compatible computer to create the xbhdm disk..(and lock the hdd)
7, just is! ask the administration of this FINE establishment!
8, LOL whut?!? COPS? up to you but individual emus seem to work best!
9, not required but it's best written to the disk by it's label recommendations...not a rule of thumb but if a disk label states it's an 8x write job, best you go with that! you're a big-boy, you can go it your own way!
that's all i can answer on this subject! Laughing
[edit].....HERE's what you need to alter your profile appearance...
[edit again] study all item documents and make comparisons...should be changelogs with each version/item...
[edit even moreso]...
6. What is the difference between Autobuilder and Xboxhdm, other than the extra goodies that Autobuilder contains? < ignore answer 6, head elsewhere atm...
@ SPPV. haven't heard that name in a LONG time....NDURE! Cool

Heres some answers for you. Some are fact others opinion
Will try to bullet them just like the questions so you can see a Q and A

#1 Yes XBOX must be modded. XBMC Installer is unsigned so requires a kernel patch or public key 0 to run (hardmod BIOS replacement also works)

#2 All XBMC base updates are manual. I try to keep up with the major releases (3, 3.1, 3.2 etc) in the installers. Minor updates like 3.2.1 which you can accomplish via simple config changes I ignore

#3 Skins or "Themes" as you called them can be obtaied via plugin included in 3.2 on the installer, or from the XBMC or XBMC4XBOX web pages. Note that some skis from the XBMC (PC, Linux, Mac) page may not work as they have requirements exceeding the XBOX

#4 Trusted sellers are hard. For XBOX/360 related hardware I would suggest dealing with trusted sellers here and Xtras. Both are tight scene communities and douche bag salesmen get outed and harrased, web stalked, and banned so fast they may as well not exist lol

#5 Install of emus is an opinion thing. If you have Emu Installer burned to disc it is by far the easiest most crack addict retarded blonde chick friendly method. But on the flip side a idrect Ftp instal is far faster if you have all the source file (emus, roms etc) ready to go. Convenience or speed? Your call on this

#6 AutoBuilder should not be compared to XBOXHDM, but rather compared to Kingroach Ndure. Both are HDM based installer compilers.
Both use HDM as the installer base. Both create a linux installer thats custom based on HDM. The real difference being that Kingroach last updated his work like 6 years ago, many finds, updates etc since then. AutoBuilder is not better in a quality sense but rather newer, able to take advantage of the latest dashboards, skins, emus, apps, XBMC etc.

#7 Large bandwidth items go VIP, Emu Instaler for example got like 1300 downloads on one site alone on release day. And its a 4.35GB file. I ALWAYS mirror work to the free section (all emus in Emu Installer can be FTP installed by grabbing AutoBuilder from the free section) and offer free alternatives t download my work and the other devs here, and the great guys/gals who share their ROMS and games. If you need to obtain via another method just PM me or see the release threads in the forum

#8 Again this is a matter of opinio inner twined with fact. Console game wise youd be a degenerate glue sniffer not to go with the work of my friends at Xbox-HQ.

#9 If you want me to be happy when you have a tech malfunction with XBMC Installer then yes 8x it is. The burn method and speed allows me to discount a very common factor in disc based installers. I know personaly from a bazillion uses that XBMC Installer works perfect burned at 8x with Imgburn to Rite-K made DVD-rs on all XBOX release DVD-ROMs. Help me help you follow all burn instructions as if they were biblical

#10 Avatar and sig are via profile. You may have better luck doing it via our 360 site (www.360-hq.com) I know I had to do my avatar via 360-hq, but my sig was no issue here
Sadly right here is the grandpa of HQ, but fear not a much needed major update is on the horizon. You may only catch quick glimpses of him (like bigfoot or the loch ness monster) but I assure you Hobbs works tirelessly putting in 27hrs a day Very Happy on the network. Even though we are the thorough bred 360 and 720-(lick my nuts wanna bes) are newer and coming so get most of his attention. But he knows just like me that this is where the real action is.

Thanks for the answers! You are a really nice guy.

Hey Starstorm,

I did the VIP upgrade last week to help the site with upkeep costs.

I did it because I love SPPV and Hobbs for all the kindness and generosity they show towards neophytes like us.

It's my way of giving thanks, not for the files. SPPV makes the important ones available to all.

It's totally up to if you wanna donate. Do it because you like the site not for just a few files.

Just my opinion.

Hey Starstorm,

If you're talking about waiting for the nudge, nudge, wink, wink event in April, in the meantime I could give you an invite to UG after two weeks when I'm upgraded to power user status and provided invites.

PM me if you have questions about UG.

UG? PM frenzy gogogogo.

Seriously though,

Question about Autobuilder:
Quote:
1) Put the Files and xboxhdm folder on the root of your PC's C drive. Nowhere else.

So, do I put the xboxhdm folder separate from the Autobuilder when it is placed to the C drive, and everything else in the Autobuilder folder, which is also placed on the C drive? Confused

What goes into the linux.iso file is up to YOU.

You could choose to just have it put shadowC-unleashX which is a security feature preventing anyone from tampering with important C drive files, or just unleashx, or XBMC etc.

You can also choose to have emulators copied into the linux.iso file.

If you put emulators on the linux.iso file it will be several GBs large and requires burning it onto a DVD-R and NOT a CD-R. Since a CD-R cannot hold as much data.

If you put the emulators on the linux.iso file and burn to a DVD-R burn it with these settings.

Use imgburn and burn at 8x! SPPV got mad at me when I did 4x. Just do what he says and he won't get mad lol. He's done those settings many times before and is sure they will work for you as well.

Well, I guess that I'm just going XBMC with nothing with it since my old comp has a cd drive and that's it. :S
Going to FTP the emus/apps.

If you don't have a tower with a DVD reader and writer than yeah, it sounds like you'll only be able to put a dash on that linux.iso file.

I'm not sure if XBMC will be too big. On SPPV's xbmc installer 3.2.2 disk his XBMC file is 1.2GB big because of all the beautiful skins on it!

Anyways you should check with him to make sure that xbmc on a linux.iso file can fit on just a CD-R disk before you proceed.

It's totally possible to FTP emus and stuff.

If not, there's always others, which I can then switch to XBMC from the SPPV XBMC Installer disc. :3
