Hi fellas,

i modded my xbox (1.6) with an aladdin modchip (dont know which one it is exactly). Well and it seems to work, but i a strange manner. If i switch on the Box, the screen stays black, nothing happens, but if i press the eject button of the DVD-ROM the screen flickers and the EVOX dashboard apperas, from this point everythings is normal...but is this normal?
Sometimes its really annyoing, cause you have to open/Close the DVD-ROM for a reboot. And if you youse application, where you have to switch a disc for example, the box reboots as soon as you open the dvd rom.
Would really be cool, if anyone of you know about this issue. I didnt solder the chip on my own, but i know its an aladdin.

Thx for your help

Niko

I reckon the solder point (BT) is not quite correct, I would double check that first

Hi Zar_niko,

Sounds like the modchip switch wires were never installed correctly.
If your not electronically minded i would ask someone who is to look at it for you.. There are plenty of diagrams availale on the web for different modchip installs..

you will have to identify the modchip before downloading any pics though.

Hi folks, thanks for your replies.

I checked all the wires in my box (especially the BT solder point) and everything looks fine. But i discovered some strange new features...the day i checked the wires i disconnected the box from the current for a few hours. And from this moment on, it worked perfectly. The problem is i think is, that the chip doesnt turn on everytime i switch on the box, it takes some pressing of the eject button to finally turn the chip on...but this day it switched on immediately...yahoo!
Well some hours later the same problem appeared again...well it seems that is has something to do with the fact, if the box has been used before or that it was disconnected...any ideas why the box works when it has no power supply and why it malfunctions when its used some hours???

thanks for further help

niko

Hi Zar Niko,

I would personally download the install instructions and check that the wires running to your xbox on/off switch are going to the correct points.
Im at work at the moment so i dont have my xbox in front of me but
you should be able to trace the wires using the installation diagrams..

It may be fitted right but for the WRONG XBOX VERSION..

hi foreahobby,

thanks for your advice, but what do you mean with "wrong xbox version"?
i know that it is a v 1.6 and i know the chip, so only thing that would be logigal could be a wrong bios, but it looks like a hardware failure. there is one more question i have. i soldered the D0 point on the XT to the board, do i also have to solder one more wire from the ground to the same point on the board? on the picture its shown very strange...on the one hand they show a picture of a soldered GND wire, and the picture above swohs a wire from the board to the D0 solder point on the XT.

Solder both of them? Or just the D0-Board-Connection?

Thanks for help!

Niko

Check which installation diagrams you are using - with the Ver 1.6 you have to connect five extra points as well as the D0 and BT points. The BT point determines the BIOS selection on start up depending on how long you press the power button. Any wrong or bad connections here can effect the start up of the Xbox but you should be able to see the Evox logo momentarily come up on the screen to indicate that the new BIOS has been selected. Any other bad or incorrect connections can effect loading the BIOS and that can freeze the startup of you Xbox.
That means check the installation points once again ......
Also, make sure the cables for the DVD and Hard drives have been reinstalled all the way home. Does it start up with the original Bios OK - that would indicate these cables should be OK.
You should have only one connection to the D0 point as well.
