I did my first softmod on a XBOX v1.6 with Ndure 3.1, xboxhdm 1.9 and hotswapping. It went o.k.

By ftp I saw that the C drive is empty. Did not know why at that time.

Got the latest AID for installing my choice of boot dash (either Avalaunch or XBMC). I want this installed on C drive. But C is not writable so it gave me an error. Then I unmounted the Virtual C, and formatted the C drive. Installed the dash and some apps.
Turning the XBOX on it gave me an error 13 and 14, one or the other with Eject button. Damn, thought I messed up the XBOX.

Managed to hotswap and install Ndure again with the error 12.
XBOX is booting again with the Unleash (provided by Ndure) dash.
Also managed C drive visable and writable.
Dual boot is not working either. Eject button gives an error 21. I am not sure if I want the Dual boot.

So what to do next?
Before I'm installing a larger HD I need to understand this. I just want to use the C drive and install the dash in it. Gone through reading a lot on several forums, but did not find my answer.

Is the virtual C with the shadowC file the actual softmod?
Is it best to leave this alone? If so, then I can not use C drive.

I am starting to think I made a bad choice doing the softmod with Ndure.

I don't have to worry about getting banned, because Xbox Live is not supporting the XBOX 1 no more. True or False?

When Unleash starts the XBOX is making a lot of noise, Sounds like the fan is increasing or maybe it is the HD or together. But when I am in Avalaunch it sound more smoothing to the ear. Why is this?

Should there be a F drive with the retail HD, or is it to small (WD 8gb)

I am also not sure if I have a backup of the M$ dash.

Hope you guys can help me.

You dont install dashboards to C with softmods. Save yourself some trouble back up the eeprom. Watch this and use the files listed http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-301.html

Could you explain, why you don't. So it is best to leave the virtual C alone.

Just before this topic I'v read your tutorial. And that is why I said, about making a bad choice with Ndure.

I have like 3 eeprom backups from different ways. Was suspicious about if I had the real eeprom.

Gonna read your tut again, but at this point I want to use AID.

The reasoning is because the C drive (MS files) are left intact on C and are needed to run the XBOX. its kinda the same idea as using the C drive on your PC just for OS and program instals and a seperate partition for all your pics and data/files.

With DPNdure there is no backup, so you have no safety blanket if something hits the fan. Best you can hope for with AID is to switch the dash and make a backup from the AID MS Dash. You will never be able to use it to switch from Ndure to SID5 since it wil require a rebot after the Ndure removal (if it can remove it). You can also use AID to create an EEPROM backup

one of the main reasons homebrew dashboards were installed to e: partition or whatever was because of the XBOX LIVE updates which are on some game discs, these updates would overwrite the softmod install.

if you haven't used auto installer deluxe yet, id suggest you check it out, once you play with it a little you wont need anything else.

That is exactly what I wanna do, I want to solve it with AID.
And I understand what you say, but then why AID gives you an option to install on C drive for Softmod. And also the Single boot No Virtual C.

So I am confused which to choose now.

Don't get confused between AID and SID.. Softmod installer deluxe is probably what you are after more, im a modchip man myself and sure ive done softmods but still dont class myself as an expert anymore since i do more 360 hacking these days then xbox1.. lol

Im positive SID5 supports virtual c etc etc. but don't quote me on that, SID and AID are always evolving.

anyway, our official aideluxe.com website has all the info and guides that you need to learn more.

SID and AID both support virtual c but its different than what was used in Ndure. Virtual c is pretty much pointless now and can cause more trouble than its worth. Unmount/removal fails on me around 1 out of 3 times, also theres no live anymore so no need to hide that modded C drive.

Heres the best way you can do it using AID.

Go to restore/backup section. Hit backup EEPROM, then hit move EEPROM to E. Go to MS backup and pick create backup from AID. Once its done, go to filemanager in AID delete everything In the UDATA and TDATA folders, also delete everything on E except for the now empty U/TDATA and the backup folder. Now Delete everything on C drive. Open the backup folder on E copy the contents of the MSBackup folder to C. Now pick 1 click softmod and let its do its thing. Youve just removed Ndure and remodded it using SID5 all in one go using an AID disc

AID solved it for me.
Last night I did the following with AID.
Backup MS dash, restore this so it would go to C: drive.
Then did the one click softmod install. And all is well now.
I got original MS dash in C drive.
The virtual C is in R: drive. I guess this is the work of AID/SID.
It contains also a folder named SID5. It doesn't bother me.

But something else did. On E: drive I now got 2 folders of Apps, one E:\apps and one E:\Apps (with the capital A). I guess I already had one apps folder in there. Both folders contains the same apps. When I delete an application of one folder it also disappeared from the other folder. So today I deleted both folders and installed the Apps again.
But I did not delete the EvoX and the UnleashX folder. These are from Ndure. Maybe it comes in handy for the future.

So in generally I did almost the same thing as what SPPV said. But I did not delete anything from C: or E: drive.
Why one must delete everything in the UDATA and TDATA?

I thought of leaving the NDTS (Ndure Tools) and NPK11 folder alone and not to delete these. Maybe to use in the future. Both are from Ndure.
But now I see that there is a shadowC_off.bin, boot1.bin and eeprom.bin in the NPK11 folder. Can NPK11 be deleted?

Exactly my point SPPV, why need a hidden C if there is no XBL no more. But I also read that some (original) games do update the MS dash. So it might be better?

The MS dash update is nothing you would have to worry about those games would update to dash 5960 which is what you have all ready or SID wouldnt have installed. The reason you delete the contents of UDATA and TDATA is both SID and NDURE leave files there after a removal which could lead to potential problems down the road. In the old live days if you had just gone back to MS dash and tried to go online youd get banned because theyd see the exploits in the U/TDATA folders. Also the U/TDATA delete will get you past the shadow c if it wont unmount/remove. And you get the double folder as youve all ready noticed if you dont delete them before the redo

If their from Ndure delete them, easiest way to tel is boot MSDASH and go to memory Ndures saves wil just say Linux and Splinter Cell where as SID saves will say SID. The Ndure saves are of no use to you since they are for booting the Ndure Softmod menu which should be gone now. And make sure to backup your EEPROM and either FTP it to your PC or copy it to a mem card or usb drive. Thats youree safety blanket with it if anything goes sideways on you you can just add it to SID5 Pimped Final and go in fix and pimp that sucker out in no time at all. If you dont have a copy I reccomend downloading it since its the ultimate tool for peope without expoitable games. Pretty much AID for XBOXHDM

Thanks, you are really helpfull.

But there is no Ndure save in the memory. These are the saves:
SID 5.11 installer, SID Splinter Cell, Complex Tools, DVD2Xbox, SID5 (got xbe and kinda a Windows logo on it), UnleashX Xbox Launcher, XBMC, XBpartioner, xToolbox, Soundtracks. There is one saying Unknown Title with the Xbox logo.

I have an eeprom question. Are all the eeproms fixed for each Xbox?
I mean can it be changed somehow. In the settings of Avalaunch you have the option of "Ällow Eeprom writeback" to enable it.
To enable the 480P, 720P and the 1080 one has to enable the writeback and the HDD lock disabled.

Just want to know if the eeprom will change after doing this.
