Post subject: Mame rom limit per folder ??

Hello,

First off I am new at this, so if I appear stupid I apologize.
Here is the information that I know.
I did not mod Xbox so I'm not sure of the inner workings.
Although it does have a 500 gig drive and multiple partions.
Running typical emulators and CoinIgnite ? for the Mame emulator.
I am doing the roms install.
Everything went good until the Mame roms.
I have over 6000 roms and what happens is I get to about the R's and it stop transfering files. 450 code , can't access.
My reasearch is showing that the way the file system is set up you can only have 4096 files per folder. That is about what I installed so I am assumming that is true.
My question is, how do I get the other 2000 roms installed ?
Emulators are on the F: partition.
CoinIgnite/Mame is on G:
If I copy the Mame directory to F: it will see that partion copy, but not the copy on G:, so I am not gaining anything.
There has to be a way for the system to see either 2 installs or 2 rom directories.
Please help, and although I am computer literate, this Xbox stuff is new so please be detailed.

Thank you,
Brad / Maxian

I create 2 Mame directories with different names, 1 in Emulators and 1 in Games. You can call it what ever you want mine are momeox128plus and the renamed one mameox128minus. Do a full instal of the emulator to each directory but split the roms between them ie A-L in one and M-Z in the other.

it would be 4096 same as FAT32 since FATX s really just a bastardized FAT32. You would run into the same issue trying to put a single file over 4GB

Hi,

Tried the 2 directory thing, didn't work.
I'm running Unleash for the dash and CoinIgnite for Mame.
Not Mameox if that makes any difference.

Brad

Can you find a config file in it that tells it where to look for the roms? if so edit it to add a second directory. Not all Mame have it though 128plus doesnt. Im surprised the duo directory didnt work for you. Only other thing I can think of is running one from disc with the remaining Emus if your version of mame will support running from D
