If the original HDD works then use chimp to clone to a larger HDD, much better way to do it.

but see it doesnt detect the eeprom.bin file in the cd so i have to do it
in the lockhd -p (hdd password im guessing) mode. do i get the hdd pass from the option 6 password menu? and when unlocking do i enter
lockhd -p (XBOXHD KEY OR HDDLockDisablePassword????

and for locking which pass do i enter also?

i wish it would detect the eeprom.bin file i put in linux>eeprom folder, i got it from my old hard drive but ive noticed from the option 6 menu and the hddinfo.txt file i copied from the old one that the hddlockdisable passwords are different, ive noticed also that that password is the same as the hdd key, not the xboxhd key
please help if you could thanks guys

UNLOCK THE HD

After you boot to xboxhdm choose option "3"(Boot linux with locking/unlocking utilities)

You must type unlockhd -a this will unlock the HD

To lock the HD type lockhd -a this will lock the HD

You must leave a space between lockhd and -a

Ure eeprom should have been mayed when you started to build youre softmod...

If you boot to to option 1 (VGA console) it will unlock the drive for you. I ran into issues when I tried to use cds but Fuji DVD-r s seem to work like a charm

ake sure to copy the contents of the C drive to the c folder for linux and the E drive to the E folder as well as the eeprom in the folder labled eeprom

After building the drive from scratch, reboot the PC boot the linux disc and this time pick hddlock unlock tools, lock the drive, turn off PC remove and put in XBOX. Boot up reinstall softmod, go into system settings enable G drive and format it with your favourite tool

i burned it to a dvd and it read the eeprom.bin eaisily and im at the last step in option three choosing lockhd -a and it works but when i type yes it says aborting right under it and the status is

Security supported: yes (1st yes)
Security enabled: no (2nd yes)

isnt security enabled supposed to be yes in order for it to be locked???
its like once i get it to work another error comes in the way Embarassed

i keep gettin error 5 so i know its not locking right
and i know the new hard drive is compatible

Did you reboot the computer after building the drive and before attempting to lock the drive? Are you using an AMD or Intel based PC?

Chances are thats your problem. For some reason Intel based PCs have an issue locking drives.

I originaly tried with an old IBM Netvista Celleron tower and it kept messing up, switched to an old AMD Sempron 2500 tower and its been clear sailing since

Possibly a firmware issue with the drive. Is it a brandnew drive or is it one you tore out of an old tower?

If it says security is supported when you go to lock it I dont see why its refusing. The only drives Ive had refuse to lock were ones that didnt support security, Ive never had a lockable drive just freeze while locking. The other option to try is the Dos locking tools and manualy enter the lock code and see if that works.

The nice thing about the DOS locking tools is it can actualy tell you if the drive itself is really frozen or if its just the PC

http://www.xboxscene.com/articles/lock-hdd.php

and there is lots more tuts on using DOS locking tools if you are unfamiliar with them

Is the new tower AMD based? or is it another Intel tower?

I just came across this and it sounds exactly what you are describing

I spent a good four hours last night and figured out my PC was the problem. Here are some useful tips:

◦New hard drive to be master on primary IDE channel. Optical drive of PC to be master on secondary IDE channel. Do not try other variations, it will not work! I.E: Primary hard drive, slave optical drive.
◦When you lock your hard drive, you may see this error: “Drive on primary master is frozen cannot change the security status of a frozen drive! Try to disable ‘automatic detection’ on the primary IDE channnel in your PC BIOS and reboot.”

•If you get this, do not bother going into your BIOS and disabling “automatic detection” as other websites say because most likely there is no such thing as an option. I was using an Emachine with an Intel processor, and that was the problem because I couldn’t lock my hard drive.
•If you are lucky, use a different PC and cross your fingers. Apparently, using AMD based machines work great when trying to lock your hard drive. I had a spare AMD machine, and I was able to lock the hard drive without any errors.

its a seagate st3200826a and one of my buddies let me have it, but it is compatible. Theyre both intel computers, but the persario gives me the frozen error and the damn emachines does not do it and says aborting, But if dos is the better way, Ill try to figure out how to do it using that, But when i enter the lockhd -a on dos or whatever do i use the codes from option six on the disk? cuz i Ftped a txt file with the codes and eeprom, from the old hard drive, just wondering which codes should i use the hdd key, xbox key, or the keys from option six? thanks again for helping me its been such a long adventure to get this on and popping haha thanks bro for realz Very Happy

With DOS you actually type the code in If the new PC is Intel as well I dont know how much luck youll have with DOS locking. Theres just something about those damn Intel systems that refuses to lock drives.
