What I need to know is, will it work with the CHIMP software that I use? If not, how easy is it to get another program installed and working that will allow me to swap my xbox hdd images to the new drive? Any info would be a big help, I need to know relatively soon as it is on an ebay auction. Tanks
No reason why it shouldn`t work with Chimp, if it doesn`t then XBHDM is your next option, you need a desktop pc rather than a laptop to use it though.
If your interested i have various spare motherboards, I`ll do you a v1.6 with a DuoX 2 installed for £20 delivered. _________________

whats a duo x2? I've already got the xbox basically doing what I want, its got the softmod and chimp and runs imports, I just wanna extend the hdd so I can install the emulators, not too fussed about many other functions. Sounds interesting though, what would that mean in layman terms? lol

aah right well in that case its cool I already have the softmod working fine I just had a tonne of problems getting chimp to move my data across to a new hdd which I had. Turned out the model I had might not have been a lockable one. anyway thankfully our office is throwing out a shite load of old server desktop machines so I'm going to try and pilfer a hdd out of one of them! I am also watching a 160 gb hdd on ebay for about 20 quid that is the one in my original post, should work although it doesn't quote chimp.
Anyway any suggestions let me know, is Chimp prone to failing? because the hdd I was using previously WAS locking as far as I could tell, it seemed to complete everything I told it to do but when you plug it back in it just wouldn't boot and flashed red orange and green. Cheers

Ok so I bought this HDD and it appears to be ok, the only instances on the xbox HDD compatibility list all say locking : YES so it should work right? One of them also says version 1.6 which is what I have:
Let me know what you guys think. If I still can't get it to work with Chimp, do I then need to try EvolutionX build 3935?

cool ok so have you used Chimp in the past then? So for my situation (xbox 1.6) is Chimp the ONLY software I could use? Or is there another program I could try incase it fails again? Thanks

If you have your eeprom you can use XBOXHDM to build the HDD.

The EEPROM, I believe I have it, I think I used Total Commander to take a copy of the contents of the backup folder on my xbox hdd after I had made a backup with SID? That sound right? If thats the one then yes, so XBOXHDM, how does that work? Can I get that via this site? When you say BUILD the hdd, how does that work? I will do a little googling in the meantime! Cheers

*EDIT* Ok so I found the v1.9 XBOXHDM zip download and will have a look at that. Is it any simpler to use than Chimp? Do I need to do anything else when following the procedures for CHIMP to lock the HDD? It seems the lock for my last hdd did happen via CHIMP (Chimp reported the lock was successfull) but it seems to fail when trying to run the new hdd in my xbox! Thanks

AHHHH finally i can help lol.
So, XBHDM, you can use it on a PC with an IDE cable in it. What you need to do firstly though is back your eeprom up to your PC so there are no issues.
Then what you need is the MS-C files (original XBOX dashboard) and copy it to C and then copy all your other files to your E drive on the disc it self. ALMOST FORGOT HAHAHA, you also need to copy the Eeprom.bin file to the eeprom folder in there as well!!!
Honestly the way i like doing it is just getting the normal dashboard and then resoft modding it after the HDD has been upgraded, just seems to work with no issues.
Ok, so how it works....
You copy the MS dashobard files to the folder called C in the XBHDM files, then copy your eeprom.bin file to the eeprom folder, after you do this, just click the Make-Win-ISO file and it will create an ISO for you that you can burn. After you burn the ISO you put it in ur PC and boot the disc with your new HDD already installed, choose the options to create a new hard drive from scratch and just hit Y for YES to all questions...after this reboot the PC and reboot the disc and then you want to go to the locking section which i believe is the last option of 4 options. After you lock the drive, you should be able to pop it in the xbox and boot her up with your newly installed drive! _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

Hi there, thanks for the info but I assume you are writing that on the understanding that I already have XBOXHDM installed yes? Because I have not installed it and know nothing about it! I have the eeprom backup and can copy any files off of it but have no idea where the folder you mention is located or where any of the folders you mention would be in the XBHDM files etc.... I've never used the program before. I will try CHIMP again either tomorrow or over the weekend and if that fails again I will come on here again for some more detailed help with the XBHDM option. Cheers

Ok I've got my FTP connection up again and it works fine via Total Commander. My problem is that I cant get the telnet connection to work now. I've done all the things I need to do according to the following guide:
Preferred DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
Alternate DNS Server: 192.168.1.2
Now that we have discussed how to connect with a path cable, let us discuss how to use a router and how easy it is!
It's so simple i am going to be very brief about it."
When I type in telnet 192.168.0.3 as per the chimp 1.6 guide it just will not connect. when I want to connect to Chimp via Telnet what do my pc NEtwork settings have to be? Do I need to reset them or leave them as they are as per above? Any help would be great. Cheers

wellll telnet, i cannot help with because ive only done it once and had someone help me with it lol.
Also, XBHDM, you don't need to install it, its a boot disc that you boot before windows loads on your computer. If you download it from us here, than you will understand everything i said above .
Just check it out, its a great way to go about upgrading or even fixing an HDD for the XBOX.
BTW, if you get the chip as mentioned above, all you will need is AID and you can format the HDD right there in the AID menu with no hassle at all! _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial
Change your PC IP to 192.168.0.1
Change your xbox IP to 192.168.0.4
Run Chimp then in the CMD window on your PC type telnet 192.168.0.3
Job done.
( I offered you the chipped mobo because you dont need to worry about locking your hard drive, it only needs locking when running an original kernel) _________________
