Hi ive just picked up a xbox tried to find my splinter cell game for days but bo good, so last night i thought i would try one of my backup games "The simpsons" on cdr and it played!! hoorah i thought
So i put in AID and tried to install the XBMC dashboard ive tries softmod and modded installs but all i get is the xbox logo and then a black screen the ring also turns orange.
All games still play so i guess it a problem with the dashboard files, but im a bit nervous as last week whilst ftp'ing to another xbox the ftp rename the dashboard files and frooze b4 uploading the new dash so thats knackered (tried hot swapping but no good i can never unlock the drive).
So could somebody help me please as i dont want to brick another one.

Id it softmod or chip?
What drive are you telling AID to install too?

I backed up the eeprom then told it to uninstall softmod just incase it was soft modded i then prepared c drive and then installed to c but looking at it even though ive chosen c it puts everything on e which im sure my other ones did.
Would i be able to see a modded chip easy (never seen one before)

Also just checked it is soft modded if i use aid and then advanced i think i click boot e drive dash xbmc starts!! not sure if this is of any help but the contents of c: is

When setting up a softmod you want to install to the E:\ drive, the MS dash will go in the C:\ drive and you will have the MS dash and eeprom back up in the E:\ drive as well.

nope still no good i was getting error 13 until i reinstalled the msdash to c im still c so i only now get the ms dash but can still played backed up games.
your xbox might be set up with a `virtual c` drive, that could be why things aren`t installing properly .... Ive never set a xbox up with a virtual c so i cant advise you as how to proceed. _________________
ive tried unmouting the virtual c: drive and still no good couple of other things. If i go into dashboard selection and install ms dash it works as in the dash appears on start up, but if i try anyother i just get a black screen and orange ring god its doing my head in never had this trouble before. One other thing i spotted nif i go to file manager theres a D: drive one of the folders says AID4 will this make a difference i did do a format of the drive even this seems like it didnt work or surely the d: would be blank??
Just watching on ebay looks like another xbox is about to finish for 99p so may have to snipe that one and give it a go.
Also if i load aid disc and then advanced and select e: dashboard xbmc loads so its deffo a link problem just working it out is the pain!!
Well im stumped ive formatted the drive and everything still will not boot to xbmc dash
It will the ms dash from the aid disc though
So the onlky way i have to start xbmc is put the AID disk in wait for it load go to advanced then dashboard selection, then click e drive dash that way it works.
I guess im gonna have to find a new xbox and play again ive even copied every file from the xbox upstairs and ftp;d them on to this xbox and still no good.

Your not loading both Microsoft and XBMC dash to the C drive are you?
