ok, so just yesterday i picked up halo 2 for my xbox. my xbox is softmodded. so i put the game in and me and my bro try to play a map, but it says map failed to load when i start the match up. i figure it cant be the disk 'cause it's in pristine condition. so, i pop splinter cell back in and restore my xbox. lo and behold, halo 2 works perfectly now.
so i guess what im asking is.... wtf happened?

The cache needed clearing

some games fail to load when the cache gets cluttered with data, it needs emptying every so often, to do this delete the contents of the following folders/partitions :

E/Cache
X
Y
Z

Use your dashboards file manager to navigate to and delete the contents

How can my cache be cluttered?

Ok, maybe not cluttered, but with some left-over halo map data. Do you have a Thompson DVD rom ?

Think of it this way, as soon as Halo spins up it starts putting data in the cache, not after weeks of use but from as soon as you start the game.

The Thomson DVD drive is known to have issues loading Halo 2 maps
