I want to run own burned discs... or run images from hdd. and i also want to switch my xbox from NTSC to PAL mode..
maybe i need to MOD my xbox sorry.. i've never done it b4. just getting my 1st xbox.

The most important thing to be done is to switch that video mode, but as i understood, xbox must be flashed or somthing, before u can run and install additional software on it.. right? or i can just take my xbox out of the box, plug it in and insert cd with ENIGMAH (as i understood, it is used to switch modes).. i was unable to download it yet anywayz.. maybe u guys have it and we can figure sumthin out? .. and what is EEPROM ?
and what's hte difference between running own burned cds and running images from hdd? do both disable on-line features? or maybe it is somehow possible to still be able to play online ?

Ok first of all, your Xbox has to be modded to run any third party app or play any game from disc or image. Whether this be via softmod or by purchasing a chip doesn't much matter, but one or the other will have to be done.
Secondly, you don't necessarily need to keep switching modes everytime you want to play an NTSC game. I'm a PAL Xbox user and mine quite happily switches itself for the games that I have that are NTSC. If however you do want to do it manually, then once your Xbox is modded, you can install Enigmah onto it and use it to change modes.
Your eeprom is a file on your Xbox, unique to that one. It is required and should always be backed up. Without it, restoring the Xbox or locking/unlocking, upgrading becomes a lot more difficult.
The main difference between running games from the HDD and running them from disc is speed. As the HDD has a much faster access and response time than optical drives, load times are significantly quicker when running a game from the HDD. Now, they aren't images on the HDD, most members use a program called DVD2Xbox to copy their games onto the drive. However, as the origianl Xbox HDD is only 8 or 10Gb, and each game is between 3-4Gb, an upgrade of the HDD is recommended for this.
Also, once your Xbox is modded, you can no longer use Xbox Live. Doing so will result in you being banned. The only exception is a possible dual-boot method of softmod, with the MS Dash as the second dashboard, or a chip which you can switch off. Even these aren't guaranteed not to get you banned though. Our members here use a free service called Xlink-Kai. It works in the same way as Live, where you can play each other over the internet, only its free and it doesn't matter that your Xbox is modded.
