Hey trouble, welcome to the site. Basically, this is very doable. You can use the Micrsoft wireless router MN-700 and the MN-740 wireless game adapter..
Or, you can use a Wireless G Linksys router and the Linksys wireless game adapter.
I have heard that the Linksys system is very easy to configure. What I would avoid doing is using two different brands of wireless router and game adapter type of set ups. For instance, don't get a Linksys router and the MS MN740 gaming adapter.
Once you get your products, feel free to as any questions that may arise.

If you just want to wire(less) your xbox up to play live, id save some cash and just get some Wireless B equipment (there practically giving the stuff away), as your only going to be connecting to the internet with it 54mbps is a bit overkill.
Example a D-Link DWL-810+ are dirt cheap, that`ll do for your xbox end, and for the wireless router , you could also probably get a cheap 2nd hand one from people upgrading to G specs. Linksys are good but to be fair they all pretty much use the same chipsets anyhow.

I have seen the Wireless B Game Adapter at WalMart for 54.00, I got the MS MN-740 Wireless G game adapter at Target for 34.99...
I also got the wireless G MN-700 Router at OfficeMax for only $39.00 so wireless G is getting real inexpensive too.
Right now you can get some awesome deals if you just look around. Plus, if you end up getting some PC's on your network and want to take advatange of the Xbox Media center Extender Kit (albeit you must have a media center pc) then wireless G may be a bit more attractive for down the road.
But, like previously mentioned, if you are only using for gaming the B will be fine. It would just bit if you ended up having to upgrade because your needs changed down the road. I plan on doing a lot of video streaming from my media center PC to my xbox so G was a bit more attractive to me.

Totally agree withe realmcoy, if your going to use XBMC or the official media center or even if you have a mod` xbox and need to transfer files, g is a much better bet. I was just really happy to get a Wireless "b" bridge for £10 (2nd hand).
To be honest on my mod` xbox i use good old cat5 as i have a pair of crimps and aint afraid to use em, and lenghts of cable through the house if put in the right areas is all part of the feng shui touch.

Yeah, wirless B is super cheap!! You can get great deals on it. For gaming only though, B is totally fine!!
I'll be grabbing the Media Center Extender Kit as soon as it comes available to me and be installing it into a non-modded machine. I am very curious to what this is going to offer me. I am definitely using the G because one of the features allows the Xbox to use the Media Center DVR functions. I can actually watch, rewind, pause and record Live TV through the Xbox with no mod needed.
I will be converting a stock xbox with a crystal clear case for the job. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter
