Posted: Wed Jul 16, 2008 6:49 pm Post subject: Xbox 360 Disc Drive (Hitachi) went crazy
I have a first generation Xbox 360 which was soft modded (I don't know the version) it has worked always but today I found a big problem.
I put in a game and when I close the lid it closes then opens again by itself but gets stuck at the middle of the opening process. I closed it again and it stopped getting stuck but it will never close up entirely I mean, it closes but after a second it opens itself again. That means It never attempts to read the disc so I can't play.
On screen when I close it, it keeps saying "Opening" and after several moments it says "Closing" then almost immediately it says "Opening" again and the lid opens afterwards.
I Thought it was a bad disc so I tried it again with no disc in it and it did the same thing. Even if I turn the Xbox off the disc tray opens and stays opened.
I don't think this is software related but while looking for help I stumbled across this forum and this is my first help request with this problem. Any help will be appreciated
UPDATE: It managed to try and read a disc but it made horrible noises I thought the disc was done for but when I open the tray again the disc was fine with no scratches.

I get it every time i drag an xbox in the house and its always followed by the question "HOW MUCH?!?!. LOL _________________
Haha, I only got to mod this Xbox because it was supposed to have controller issues. Never mind the fact that the "newer" one will probably never see power again because the modded Xbox has been playing Thomas the Train and Elmo non stop for my kid.

as for your problem if the xbox360 was opened before then u should reopen it and check if there is something stuck in the drive as this has happened to my plenty of times
