Hello. My first modded xbox finally died and I'm looking to softmodding my next one very soon. I was hopeing to get some ideas with what process to take from the pros on this site.

I already have an xbox and an action replay on the way.

I also wanted to put a rather large HDD into this one. What is the biggest HDD I can put in it without it becomming a problem?

The first problem I can see me having is that I travel 100% for my job so the only computer I have is a Laptop. I was wondering if there is a way to upgrade a HDD without a chipmodded xbox or Desktop PC?

well I greatly appreciate any help that you can offer.

Hi and welcome to the site Very Happy

Ok, firstly, if you wanna tell us when your AR arrives, we'll go through how to get the games saves and SID (Softmod Installer Deluxe [which you'll need to download if you haven't already]) onto the AR card so you can get softmodding.

Guys and girls on this site quite happily put bigger drives in the box. I myself have a 160Gb, but there are some that have 320, or even 500Gb, with no probs at all. Be sure to check out here:

to see if the drive you're looking at putting in is listed in our compatible hard drives section.

As for the upgrading of the drive itself, do you know what version of Xbox you have (v1.0, v1.2 etc). There are two easy methods, using programs Chimp and XboxHDM. As to which one is the best for you will depend on your version.

D:1.00.5960.01

I didn't see too many really big HDDs that said I could use the Chimp or XboxHDM software.

Any recommendations?

Ok,,,,so I'm gonna get my AR tomorrow.

I am currently working lame hours so I was hoping you could post some links or what ever you suggest I should do.

My xbox is Version 1.0 and I bought a Western Digital 320GB HDD Model Number WD3200JBRTL.

If the HDD can be softmodded then Chimp snd HDM will work fine with them it just means that was not how they set up the drive. Wink

You will need.....
1. Torx 10 and 20 Screwdrivers (available at your local Sears)
2. FTP Access to your Modded Xbox
3. Blank Hard-Drive
4. Blank CD-R/RW
5. Xboxhdm: http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/download-file-1138.html

That should do it and i would read over the guide 2 times then do it. Wink

I still haven't softmodded my new xbox though. I have my old chip modded xbox still and I can get it working sometimes.

So what do I need to do to soft mod my new xbox?

Where can I download the game save exploit for mechassault and the SID 5.0?

I tried to download the SID 5.0 from the VIP downloads but it is broken I think. When I tried it would take me to a page with a bunch of very random characters on it.
