i was told that when u go on LIVE that xbox can ban u if they find that u have an aternative bios, if ur chip is enabled, if you have a larger hdd capacity than normal and also if your HDD has files that your not supposed to have. if this is true, then what drive does LIVE scan for and where do ur put your files. _________________ _______________________________________

They can tell if you have an alternative BIOS or an enabled modchip, but not an inactive modchip. Having an enabled modchip wil get you banned.
Rumor has it they can/do scan HDDs. I am aware of no reports that a non-stock HDD will get you banned. There are stealth BIOS you can flash your modchip with that will look for your alternate dashboard in locations other than the C drive. HOWEVER, I suspect that if they DO scan HDDs, they probably search E/F/G partitions as well. Why would they stop at C partition?
I've heard that the main reason they don't want modchips on Live is because it significantly introduces the possibility of cheating. I read somewhere that before they checked for modchips, people with modchips were whuppin' everyone's collective asses at various games, thus the ban. I think M$ wants modders' & non-mooders' money, so they don't want to ban people, but the non-modders were getting upset at the arse-whuppin' they were receiving and wouldn't want to play on XBL.
My personal belief is this... they MAY scan your HDD for statistics reasons (like how many modders are out there?), but if you've got your modchip off, running stock BIOS, you'll be OK.... keep sending in that monthly subscription fee to M$!
BTW, if they banned you for the large HDD, very few people here would NOT be banned from XBL! _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

Xbox's original purpose for banning modded machines was to keep a level playing field. The number of unmodded xbox to modded machines is enormous. Although, I would like to believe we're catching up.
I remember being one of the first on XBL. I was playing MotoGP and I couldn't figure out why some bikes could just leap over me, or if I got to close to them I wiped, or if they smashed into me, I wiped and they didn't...not too mention their physics were extremely different than mine!!
Turns out they had modded machines and were using game hackes. Needless to say, it wasn't much of a competition and I chose not to race strangers anymore. I also contemplated not renewing the subscription when my trial ran out. So, MS probably recognized that if a majoratiy of people felt they couldn't game fairly then why pay for the service.
That is when they started banning machines that logged on with enabled chips.
I have heard all the rumors about ppl getting banned with larger HD's or because their Evox.ini file resided on the C drive....so far I ain't buying.
I have been on XBL since it's inception and log on with two modded machines at any given time. I have my Evox files on my C drive and I am using a minimum of a 120GB HD. Never have I been banned.
Now, I am not saying that maybe some day they won't start, but currently I think as long as you cloak your chip you are safe.
later man

Interesting....
You see the reason i'm asking is because i'm playing my emulator on from the HDD and it saves its files on the E:, which is also where i have game saves (i think), so if they do the scan then i will probably get banned. Plus i have several dashboards on the c: drive. If i get banned then that means no LIVE and I haven't got enough money to get a new xbox (i've just spent sum money on getting the xbox repaired after f-ing up my mod attempt + i'm getting the new MK and ISS Pro game nxt month not 2 mention a 120gb hdd....hmmm....maybe sum LED,,,,and definately sum PSX converters for my iss friends!!). S0 it is important that i make sure that they dont ban me.
Speaking of emulators, will xbox modders be getting kaillera for xbox ports so they can play online. i've had winkawaks for nearly over 2 years now and used to love playing sf3 alpha online, but now i've got the emu on xbox so would love to play online especially since i have an arcade stick for the xbox. Wouldn't it be another great mod to add to the xbox since you can play online with LIVE and xb=connect, why not Kaillera. All you got to do is connect the xbox through your PC to a server/spftware that allows xbox emu players to come together and have a good 'ol fashion arcade fest (but i suppose we got capcom vs snk for that and that would make the sf2 anniversary edition half as good + emus on PC).
Ah well...just can't wait to get my xbox back _________________ _______________________________________

Oh, I believe people with larger HDD and evox.ini files on the C drive are getting banned, but it's only when the knuckleheads log on with the chip enabled!
To all those who have been banned, please accept my apologies for using the term 'knucklehead", ya kunckleheads!
I'll probably forget tonight and be banned! Attention Fellow Knuckleheads! Your King Has Arrived!!!! _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

No, you won't! I'm not convinced they are scanning, but even if they are, they are just SCANNING, NOT BANNING!

So do I. I haven't been banned.

Well, I DO have the money to go out and buy another Xbox if I get banned, but I really have absolutely no desire to waste $150. _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

Just to be sure, when I boot my xbox and the xenium screen comes up, and I select "MS Dash" I am booting with my chip off yes? I mean I have no swtich so I only assume that would work. Also, if I boot the Xbox with the disk in the drive, does that boot with the chip on or with the chip off? Cuase I know I will forget and bugger something up.
Thanks for the help. _________________ Xenium (thanks Porche)

Gee, that is a REALLY good question, not being a Xenium user. From EvoX, you can choose to run M$ dash with the chip on. From XeniumOS, that may be a different matter. Hopefully, RM will chime in with the answer!

Once again, I dunno, but I know if I boot my Xecuter Xboxs with a retail disc in it, it doesn't affect the modchip's state... if the modchip is switched on, it's on, if it's off, it's off. Is there no indicator light on Xenium's? On my X2s, green means on, red means off. On X3, blue or purple means on, and red means off. _________________ The World's Most Awesome Xbox 360 Room

That is correct RedJello. When I set up any of my clients machines I make it so if they select MS Dash from the launch items menu, they are safe to jump on XBL. If you select EvoX Dashboard, then that will enable your chip and you should NOT go on XBL.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
For those worrying about getting their E drive scanned...please...enjoy your machine. You will be fine.
I have saved games on E, my daughters emulator saves are on E, I go on live with no worries.
As long as you have your chip disabled, MS will take your cash!!!! If you are truly worried and can't afford another machine, then jump on XBC instead.
