Alright. I have read a lot of different answers and experienced a lot of different things, I need some feedback.

I've got a 1.3 Xbox, with a 2.6l xecuter chip and a Samsung drive.

initially when I flashed my bios, I tried a Memorex CD-R.. nothing
sony CD-RW and it took it right away.

now.
I made and iso.. burned it to a Memorex DVD+R and.. nothing, I heard it doesn't like Memorex media, so I bought some off brand stuff I cant remember the name off hand... nothing, wont take it. now.. same off brand, but a DVD-RW and it takes it no problem, so I know its not my iso...

so..
what's going on? is it my older bios that's limiting me, my choice of media? or what? any help is greatly appreciated...

I thought the samsung would take any media? CD-R/CD+R/DVD-R/DVD+R

what is reccomended?

I've been reading around, and, near as I can tell, there's some variability out there... different DVD drives of the some brand seem have slightly differing abilities. I'm not sure why this would be, but I know that the same brand 7 type media can be made in different factories and not all factories are created equal. There is supposed to be some way to tell what factory they come from, but I don't know how. This info would probably be valuable to figuring out the puzzle. Saying "My Samsung reads Maxell DVD-Rs" would become more meanful if I could tell you WHICH Maxell DVD-Rs I used.

My Samsung, and the extra one I had that I pawned away....now owned by 'Xboxter', would never read Memorex media...period!

But, I could throw generic CDR's that I got in bulk, any other brand of DVD-R or +R with no hassles..

Just for whatever reason...Memorex choked.

Yikes! I just bought a 30 pack of Memorex DVD-Rs... oh, well, they should work in my Panasonic DVR... it seems to like all DVD-Rs except Sony!

To make an Xbox accept DVD+R media all the time you need to do bitsetting from the DVD burner.... Go to cdfreaks.com and look into bitsetting (booktype) for your drive..

I have a lite-on drive and when I burn a DVD +R I set the booktype to DVD-ROM instead of DVD+R and it works ...

When I don not set the bits correctly the xbox will not see the media at all ...

Check it out !! Laughing

I checked it out and sounds fascinating! My DVD burner is a Pioneer 104, so DVD+R media doesn't interest me (right now), but for those with DVD+R burners, this may be a BIG help!

If you're talking about with bitsetting, the apparent answer would be yes... never done it... just what I've read!

Yes....

Before you burn you will set the bits to burn as a DVD-ROM instead of a DVD+R, this increases the compatability with alot of machines and xboxs....

I hope this helps alot of people, it sure helped me when I learned about it ... Laughing

Very cool... I got a lot of useful information from cdfreaks and cdrinfo or something like that. I still have to import my bookmarks from when I did my yearly restore....

Anything on DL burning?? I just picked up more DL disks and want to give Ninja Gaiden a shot. Want to make sure that I don't burn a 12.00 coaster...

So I went to burn an iso in Nero 6, and when I open it to burn there is no option to burn as DVD-ROM or anything else. It shows up as a foriegn image. I created it with craxtion. should I have used Qwuix? anyone else actually get this to work? I am going to try some DVD-R's tonight.
