hello,
it can be done but its not straight forward, the voltages are slightly different.

What you need is one of these :

Would I be able to use a voltage regulator on the 5+ to 3.3V ? It seems I could build my own?

Im in Lebanon and dont have access to anything but electric components, I cant even find A broken xbox (or xbox at all) to replace my power supply 110V with a 220V...

Im working on a movie and we use a xbox to view all our dailies we shot earlier that week. Now that the xbox is useless here in Lebanon, I dont want to have the director wait until LA to use it again.

I know of a great electronics store that already has helped me find parts to fix a remote focus / exposure control. If I know a little bit more about the components on the board of the PSU converter I could find a voltage regulator and a neat little LED, I have an extra PSU for my Backup Editing system, I'm going to get a ATX to MiniATX PSU convertor and strip that one apart instead of killing my Backup PSU...Or a ATX extender, Im sure something like that might exist in Beirut.

I dont see why not as long as your regulator keeps the power at 3.3 you should be fine.
The chip listed in this thred is just that, a way to drop 5v to 3.3.

If u fancy building one yourself, here`s a couple of schematics :

(I didnt make these, so credit given to those i stole them off)

EDIT : That second pic (the smaller of the two) contains an error, START should be PWRON and its position should be between the resistor R1 and the Transistor.

the nice thing about using the psx power supply is when you start to mod, you increase the load on the original PSU, which can lead you to some problems(depending on what you're doing). I know doing all of my mod have definitly incrased my load probably to max, but no problems yet Wink

Quick update : If you wanted to use an ATX psu without having to build something as complicated, you could solder 2 diodes (1N4001) in series connected to the +5v, this would drop the voltage by 1.4v giving you 3.6v (i know its not 3.3v but it shouldnt cause any problems).
