I modded my XBOX a while back with a Xenium ICE non solder chip. The chip been kinda flakey since day one and i want to softmod the system but I can't get the system to boot with the original hard drive. I'm not 100% sure that it is MY original hard drives since I did a few of my friends XBOXs but i tried them all with no luck. Is there a reason why i wouldnt be able to boot with the original drive or another drive? If I cant get it to boot any, is there a way to load the softmod without it? Any help would be appreciated.

One nice thing about the chip is it lets you run your hdd unlocked but with the hdd unlocked you cant run the MSdash with the chip turnd off.
So turn the chip off and and see if it boots to an error and let us know what that error is.

Sounds as though your hdd is not locked or that your hdd is locked to a different console. _________________

if its locked in another xbox it will be more of a problem, but there are tools available that allow you to unlock locked HDD's although you will lose any data on the drive

Thanks for all of your replies. Sorry i didnt get back sooner.
Sorry but i didnt notice the error. I'll look at it as soon as i get home from work and post it.
It seems that it probabaly is a unlock issue. My question is then, if i had unlocked my new drive (80GB Maxtor) when i modded it and didnt lock it before i took the chip and 80GB HD out would that make the XBOX see the orginal 8GB retail drive as unlocked after i put it back in? Does the system itself retain the info on the lock/unlock status? I assumed the lock/unlock status in retained in the drive itself. If it is a lock/unlock issue, does it matter which retail hard drive i use?

Ok man if you pull the larg hdd and put a stock hdd in it, it wold need to be the one that came in that xbox.
The hdd that came in the xbox stock has the eeprom for your xbox mobo.
If you wanted to use some other stock hdd for your xbox you need to use the chip the get your mobo eeprom and use xboxhdm to put that eeprom on the hdd.
Hope that helps man.

Thanks alot wes213, I had the eeprom backed up on the Xenium but i may have deleted it when i tried to restore the OS back onto the chip when i had problems with it. If i am unabe to get the original eeprom off the chip is there any other way to get around this with another retail drive?

as i said there are utilities available that will unlock a locked drive, but you will lose any data (this shouldnt matter for your purposes though, if you wanna go back to stock)

By "losing data" do you mean game saves etc. or will the entire retail drive be wiped? If I use the retail drive shouldn't the drive be locked in order for the retail dash to load? Could you point me in the direction to get these tools? This sounds alot easier and less scarier to do than messing with the eeprom. Thanks pezzar.
