Hi,
My xbox is mod with a Aladdin chip.
the mod was already a yr ago and recently, when I on my xbox, it gives me an error 07.
Read a lot of sites and told was the HDD timeout.

change HDD - Same Error 07
plug out all HDD - Same Error 07
Took out HDD and DVD. Not connecting anything - Same Error 07
Plug out the mod chip. However, there were 4 cables soldered onto the mb which I didn't touch - Same Error 07

Please advise what could possibly wrong?

Ok:

07 - Kernel - HDD timeout

This message normally comes up when your HDD has or is failing. It can also be caused by a faulty IDE cable, stoping data transfer to and from the HDD. Does your drive make any whining, ticking or clunking noises?

You might end up doing a "new drive" with XboxHDM if your drive is failing. Do you have a backup of the drive?

There is a clunking sound.
That's why I changed another formatted hdd. But still error 7
I will try to use another ide cable today.
I do not have any backup of the evoX. And I tried to find but still not able to get the download site.
Can you advise where can I download? I have already written down all the steps but just lack of the software. I also saw someone posted to download slayer; where to get this?

You need to download AID v4.01, available from the downloads section.

Do not use slayers, AID is much better.

So you do have a mod chip right? If you do then just get a new IDE cable and see if that works. Then put in your new HDD with AID in and format the HDD. Then install all the dashs and apps and emulators you want!

Yeah, if your drive is making a clunking sound, it has almost definitely failed, or just about to. As darth says, seeing as how you have a modchip, download AID 4.01, and boot it in the Xbox with a new, clean drive. It'll format the HDD and set everything up for you.

1) Must I format the new hdd to fat32?
2) Where can I get the download of AID 4.01?
3) Is it that I must boot up from the AID Disc and use the menu to format the HDD?
4) Without having the AID Disc, even though I place a new HDD will also give me Error 07. Right?

Yes you do need the AID disk to be able to format the HDD. If you put in the new HDD you will get error 21 because you dont have a dash on that xbox. Here is the download for AID 4.01:http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt21290.html

It won't matter whether the drive you put in is formatted in FAT32 or NTFS, because AID will format the drive into an Xbox-only format, FATX.

Until the new drive is inserted, formatted and set up correctly, you will continue to get the error.

Well if the HDD is messed up it would still boot to the disk first because of how the xbox is setup. Most likely your DVD drive cant read the brand of dvd-r your using. Try another brand and see if it works.
