ok this may be a crazy, yet very smart idea...
My friend has an xbox and wants it modded but due to the lack of $ for a modchip or the exploit games and a memory card he cant mod his xbox. A friend of mine who helped me softmod mine (he had the stuff) moved away so i dont have access to that anymore, but I eventually upgraded to an 80gig and i still have the backup of my C, and E drive (from softmod) so i was reading this tutorial...http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-161.html
and was thinking what if I made a new xbox-hdm disk and used my files then remade his xbox hdd from my softmoded files, but there were two things i was wondering about...
if it messes up is there a way to go back back to an original dash
and will this work or are the softmod files signed to a certain xbox or are they universal
(ps i also have my stock hd with the eeprom backup on my computer maybe i could get his eeprom from xboxhdm and then change it on my drive somehow then use my stock drive in his box)

If his Xbox is'ent softmodded How will you get the eeprom off his Xbox..?
I don't think you can hotswap it cos when you hotswap it goes back to unsoftmodded state.....
Well at least with Sid 4.5 it dose.
if you can get the real eeprom from his Xbox i don't see why it wont work but if i was you use your old stock HDD that way if it don't work you can put his HDD back and all's well _________________

that wont work either....hds are married to motherboards....unless i misunderstood what you meant... _________________

But only by the eeprom so if you can get the eeprom off the Xbox and use that eeprom to lock any lockable HDD it will work just the same ...
The big problem is getting the eeprom off an unmodded Xbox...? _________________

and i was thinking about using my stock hd just because if it doesent work he has his drive and then theres no problems

not that i know of. There is a way to obtain it, u would have to build an eeprom reader, or order one from somewhere, id order as I dont know if your ready yet to do this.
Basically it reads the eeprom from the xbox to the PC using the serial port on the PC. Then you could build a hard drive with the modded dash and modded files. But as I said im not sure if your ready or not, no offense, just dont know how much you know is all!
