Hi, I recently decided to use an 80gb drive (it supports locking, as I checked it with AIDA) and try to clone it with chimp from my softmodded original xbox drive.

After I had formatted the drive and cloned the C drive over it stopped running, then started to smoke from the power connection when I went to test the drive swapped in place of my original.

Anyone had a similar problem or know what might have happened?
The drive was running fine before with windows xp using an external usb drive enclosure and I had formatted it with windows xp fine as well?

Thanks in advance.

Was the power connector in correctly? If was loose you could've had some electrical sparking, which may account for the smoke and smell.

Also, were you using a molex splitter, or is the drive running from the connector on the motherboard?
