Ok, kids. This is gonna take a lot of class participation. So read up:
The other day I was going to do a softmod on a friend's box for him. Cheap too, because he's a good friend. Well, i start searching my house, and low and behold, I can't find my splintercell disc! WTF?! Well, I have less than an hour to get this mod done, so I race across town to my local EB Games. Out of breath, I run inside and tell them I need splintercell, and it's CAN'T be platinum hits. We all know the rules, no platinum hits; you have that, no moddie, right?
Well, i decide to take a shot; since all they have at my store are the plat versions... I get a deal, all three softmod games for under ten bucks... I really can't complain. (I found my original later, but read on). So I rush home and cross my fingers. I've always been a rule breaker, and usually it pays off for me.
So I pop in the plat version of Splintercell because that's what was already on my mem card. The game loads up, and with crossed everything, I tell the savegame to launch. BAM, i'm greeted by the lovelyness of the SID 3.11 main menu. Goddamn, I'm in business. Needless to say, the mod went off without a hitch.
So my question is to all of those who, like me, got forced into buying the platinum hits game. Did it work for you? If it did, post your xbox version (the one the mod worked/didn't work on) and the happy little numbers in the hologram at the center of the disc.
Why do I ask this? Because I have a theory; it's more Xbox version based than it is by Platinum/non plat version of each game. yes, the version of the game matters, but I think the biggest player is the model of the xbox (1.0 vs. 1.6?). So I have my old 1.6 here with a 120GB hdd that I'ma try out later on this week (maybe after turkey day). I'll try all three games and see if it works with each one If it doesn't, my theory is proven correct. So, help out guys, post your experiences here and see if we can't pull a "Myth Busters" .

Sounds like an interesting theory. I'll be watching this topic definately.
Is there any serial numbers on the DVDs which they can be identified as, maybe there's different versions of the Platinum Hits (different manufacturing locations/dates etc.)

I've only had one 'failure' with the copy of Platinum Splintercell I've been using (About 20 Mods using it). I'm not even sure if it was a game issue that time as I let my Girlfriend attempt the mod.
I'll post the serial number and X-Box model numbers in the next few weeks. I've got 10 virgin boxes across the range that need modding in the next few weeks so i'll post an update as and when they're done (most prob be over this coming weekend)

Yes this is true, the actual memory cards have been known to cause problems, especially the Action Replay Memory Card.
I always suggest if possible to use a Genunine Xbox Memory Card, that's what I've used for all my testing, and after using it hundreds of times that I've copied and deleted gamesaves from it, it still works perfectly like the day I bought it.
