Post subject: Unable to get to MS dash

Hi,

I installed UX as dashboard using SID 4.0. The modding went perfectly.

Until recently, I used to be able to access MS dash from UX menu but now when I try to go to MS dash, it shows error 21.

I dont know how it got screwed. I understand the error means some files are missing and/or the error flag is set.

How do I fix it?

I tried overwritting msdash.xbe from the backup but it didnt seem to fix it. Also, tried ftp-ing a new xbe from the net ....same result.

I am not sure uninstalling the softmod will help coz, the installer can't restore a working msdash. Is it true?

Anyway, has anybody faced this problem? How can I fix it?

Thanks in advance.

If you want the MSdash, this is what I would do:

Boot AID
Under tools(I think) unmount the virtual C partition)
It should reboot, and when it does format C and E(this will erase everything on those drive, so backup anything up you want to save first)
After formatting, install msdash 5960, then choose to backup eeprom and msdash.
Then go to tools(again, not positive this is the right menu, not home to check) and install SID4.5.

Do not reboot ay any point unless your told to, or you will mess things up.

Once thats done, restore your apps and such that you backed up from your PC.

Hope that help, post back if you need clarification

Greven,

Your reply sounds like I have to un-mod and re-mod the box again.

I was hoping for a simpler solution than that. Isnt there a way I can ftp over stuff or edit some files to set things straight.

All I wanted to do was to enable 5.1 digital audio. I couldnt do it in UX or even XBMC that I installed as an app. Is there a way I can do that without going through all this?

I have a whole bunch of saved games, emus and their saves on the box. I dont even know how to back them up.

Please advise.

To backup(which you should do anyways just in case) you FTP into the xbox and just download the files to your PC.

The issue with replacing the error 21 file is that we don't know which file, and you can't just flat out replace all the files. If you do, you lose your softmod.

Replacing everything really is the best way.

If you still have the MS dash backup files on the xbox then its easy. Take off the soft mods and put them back on. Super easy to do it
