I installed the cromwell Aladdin Live chip into my 1.1 Xbox (4 wire + pinheader) and the normal mode works fine. The modchip mode works fine playing original Xbox games (although it does prompt for a new system date, which is to be expected.)
HOWEVER! The modchip-flash mode does NOTHING. The Xbox has the blinking lights, and makes noise, but it never lights up the screen. I’m looking for the “DVD tray comes out and the XBox asks you to insert Disc” situation, but it just doesn’t happen. I have my Bios disk all ready, but it never asks for it.
Where do I go from here? Is it possible the preloaded cromwell Bios is corrupt? What do I do to fix it without a programmer?
Thank you

You need to get rid of the Cromwell BIOS...
It will only play Linux stuff and not Xbox stuff, so a modchip with this (unless you only want to run linux) is useless.
I don't know exactly what BIOS you need (hopefully another Admin or person with more knowledge than me can back this up) but I'm thinking that you would use the Xecuter2 4983 BIOS. Now, depending on what size HDD you have in it, there are two versions:
4983.06 is for drives 120gb or under
4983.67 is for drives bigger than 120gb
Hope that helps you out...

I know that i have to flash another bios on the chip.
Ive burned a bios.bin to CD-RW already, the problem is that the flash mode of the cromwell chip isnt working.
When booting up the system the cromwell bios should appear on the screen, but nothing.
Nope. The screen remains blank. (This was addressed in the first message and the second message).
The quick method plays games normally.
The 3-second method makes blinking lights, and the Xbox screens come up and it can be used to play games.
The 5-second method just has a blank screen, and has the alternating colors around the eject button.
I’m getting no screen AT ALL when in the 5-second flash mode. The tray won’t eject when in this mode.
Thank you

I had the same problem, i tried to write the bios using every kind of burner form nero, to alchol 120%, nothing worked. It says on aladdin web site that some of the new mod chips have the flash mode disabled. So i believe thats what we got, because you can't seem to flash the darn thing. But anyways i got the programmer and i was able to flash it, now it seems to be working fine. To let you know aswell some of the chip when hooked up to a programmer you have to run a new wire from the programmer to the chip. Hope this isn't to late to help you

I wish I could help you out more what I have, but I haven't ever flashed a Mod BIOS for an Xbox. I've done a few PC flashes but ofcourse that was only firmware upgrades etc.
The Programmer sounds like the easiest way to do it though...
