Hi
I have a softmodded xbox with MA exploit, i know how to run my xbox and everything well i would say im a novice to intermediate at xboxes. and i have read this tutorial http://www.techfreaks.org/articles/modxbox2.shtml TONS of times so i follow all the steps correctly and then when i try to lock it it says the drive is frozen and cannot change the security of a frozen drive. I have checked my drive to see if it is lockable and it is (Model ID-WDC WD800JB-32JJC0) i have also tried it as a slave and used hd tool with the following command: "hdtool -d /dev/hdb -e /cd/eeprom/eeprom.bin -o lock"
it recognises the right hard drive but says eeprom not found and i am 150% positive that it is in the cd i have checked over 50 times, im thinking it may be the path im putting in? any help would be GREATLY APPREACIATED

are you using xboxhdm? and if so make sure that when you got your eeprom from your xbox over to your computer you placed it in the eeprom folder of the linux. and let me know wat dir you got your eeprom from

Yes i am using xboxhdm and yes i used your tutorial, but when i get to the locking secition and i type "lockhd -a" it says the hard drive is frozen and the securty state can not be changed on a frozen drive

well in that case there is probably something wrong with your harddrive, just because the harddrive can be lock doesnt mean that it will always work. Just grab any other harddrive over 8gigs and try to install it into that hardrive. if it works then we found our problem, if not then let me know and we'll continue to work on it.

thanks for the help, but i think im just going to buy an aladdin advance plus and go for a 200 gig hard drive, because i just had this 80 in my computer being unused so i thought i would try it, but id rather spend the exta 30 bucks and get a 200 gig over another 80 and then spend the 80 to get the chip and installed

and what should the jumper settings be?

guys thank you soo much it went very smoothly, got the hd put in right and dusted out my xbox, turned it on loaded everything up, one problem in evox it says i only have 4.813 gigs on my e drive and 0 on my F, but this drive is 80 gigs am i suposed to do something else now?

I am Having the same problem as well.... I had the message "drive is frozen cannot change the settings of a frozen drive".
I then did as you said, and disabled the primary ide channel on the PC's BIOS settings and then tried it again....
It came up with a new message - "No drive detected on the primary IDE channel; poweroff and connect harddrive".
I am not sure if this matters but this harddrive was in a modded xbox before... but I used CONFIGMAGIC and unlocked the harddrive, then I reformatted the drive using the disk I had made to make the drive for the other Xbox.
please, please help me!!
