I just tried modding my Xbox using SID3.1 but I got confused by the EEPROM backup menu and am wondering now if I did something wrong. I used the "Backup / Restore Features" to make a MS backup first, followed by a EEPROM backup. The EEPROM backup menu has menu items like "Backup EEPROM", "Move EEPROM to E", "Move EEPROM to F", ... this is not so clearly explained in the SID manual. I selected "Backup EEPROM" thinking this would make the EEPROM backup. I then did the softmod (using Nkpatcher). It was only later that I noticed in the file manager there was no "EEPROM" folder in E:\BACKUP! I then further investigated and realized I had to use "Move EEPROM to E" I then used this option (so after doing the softmod already) and copied the files to my computer ...
Now my question: do I now still have a proper backup of my EEPROM? Or has installing the softmod already changed my EEPROM and do I now have a backup of a modded EEPROM??
Also: what is the "Backup EEPROM" option in the menu supposed to do if it doesn't make a E:\Backup\EEPROM as I expected?
I would suggest explaining the EEPROM backup menu a bit better in the SID manual btw

If I understand correctly from this post SID 3.1 Nkpatcher does not change the EEPROM nor BIOS? So even though I only made the EEPROM backup after applying the Nkpatch, my eeprom.bin and bios.bin in e:\backup\eeprom are "retail" backups? (I even did a reboot I think before I noticed I didn't have a e:\backup\eeprom ...)
Hope somebody can confirm this soon ... have been combing out previous posts, but haven't found a clear reply. Kind of worried I already screwed something up here

Yes you do.
It's in E:\UDATA\21585554\000000000000\Backup\

Ok I checked and the files are there. But now I'm still not clear about which version of my EEPROM and BIOS I have a backup of. I think I used the "Backup EEPROM" option again after applying the softmod which would have overwritten the files in E:\UDATA?. Because of the EvoX problem I had, I also tried removing files on E:, I don't remember if I removed UDATA too. So I just really don't know anymore when exactly I made the backup that is now in E:\UDATA and the one in E:\BACKUP\EEPROM. Does it matter?
(I have *not* remade an MS backup btw. The SID Installer was very clear on that you should only do it once. It was not so clear for the EEPROM backup )

AID can do a eeprom backup for you also, go to the Backup / Restore menu and it has it there.
The eeprom doesn't really come into play too much with the SID 3.1 exploit, unilike SID 4.5 which makes a backup of it to use as part of the softmod.

Ok thx. You didn't really say it explictly, but I guess this means it doesn't matter when I made the EEPROM backup Or am I still in trouble if I ever want to put my Xbox back to retail or upgrade to SID4.5? (And use Xbox Live maybe ...)

Putting back to retail is no problem at atll.
But, with installing SID 4.5 and using the Xbox Live option on that, you MUST take your Xbox back to retail first, set up your Live account , then use SID 4.5. At this time, MS and Eeprom backups are critical.
Don't use the one-click installs on AID either, as Live is set up the way you want it.so if you want to change the dashbaord use the Install Dashboards option on AID.
