Hello all my first post here so please dont mind the basic questions. I have had for about 2 years now a modded xbox a friend did for me. Not sure what chip he used but thats not my problem. That unit is running wonderfully when i get a chance to play with it.
My question is this I have a version 1.0 that has been collecting dust and my father wants it as I have gotten him hooked on the 'BOX'. However the dvd is dead. Not sure if its the laser or a total dead drive. So with me having to go into the unit anyway I told him i would look into modding it.
After hours of reading and sucking up knowledge (thanks to all you that have come before me). I want to know a few things.
I know its a version 1.0 from when the dvd died and tech support wanted to charge me $90 to fix it. Needless to say they got the finger and I got a new box. So here we go finally.
I am trying to keep the price of modding the box around 150. that would include the dvd. Any and all parts or sugggestions are greatly appriciated. As for features needed. The only thing he is interested in is being able to copy the disk to the harddrive. He wont be going online at all with the box as its not his cup of tea and he sucks at FPS. So an always on chip is fine. The harddrive is very negotiable as he will probably play very few game types. So less than 80g is more than enough. Unless of course the price is better for the larger. I've seen wierd sales where a 200g is $100 and a 80g is $140. Makes no sense but oh well. So thats what I'm looking for please feel free to ask me more as I know I left something out just not sure what.
Thanks in advance

Visit NewEgg.com to find a Hard Drive for a good price -> http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=14.
Make sure it's a lockable drive so that you can access the MSFT dash and if you want LIVE one day... Click on the HardDrives link here at Xbox-HQ for a list of lockable drives. Or, you can just chance it and buy one that's not on the list and see if your Xbox locks it.
Flashing the TSOP is the most economical way to mod your Xbox. Or, you could softmod your Xbox, but the cost of an Action Replay memory card is a waste and then why not just buy a modchip. _________________ [XBOX v1.6b / Xecuter 3 CE / Western Digital Caviar SE 300GB HD / ATA166 IDE Cable / XCM Cystal Clear Case / Red Firework LED 80mm Fan / 12v Fan Mod / UnleashX Default Dash]

Hi floppyeardbunny,
When you choose a modchip make sure you go for one that has lots of information on it and plenty of members using it.. Like Xeniums, X3's etc etc.. We have lots of tutorials so just make sure you get the mods we recommend and use ourselves.
If you get a modchip no one is using its going to be hard to support.!
If you are not good at soldiering get a soldierless modchip.. Its up to you.
