I have just installed a xenium modchip in my xbox and I have read all kinds of these posts and they all say that you have to connect to your pc and ftp your xbox to your pc. I was just wondering if you have to do that or can you do it all by burning everything on cd's and loading dashboards and bios's that way? I have been trying to get my xbox up and running since installing my modchip and have had no luck. I am going to use the autoinstaller and read that you have to do it from your pc. If not could someone tell me exactly what to do? thanks

Welcome to the site 'bkirby'.

You do not have to FTP to your xbox.

The autoinstaller is installed via disk. You should read up on the tutorials that are here on this site. Xenium is a solid chip made by a great company. They even have install manuals and such available from their website.

The Xenium can be flashed via CD too. That is a nice thing about that chip. You don't have to purchase a programmer.

If you can't find the manual or have additional problems let me know.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks realmccloy. I just recently became a member of this site which by the way is the best site that i have found regarding modified xbox's. It has tons of info. and everybody seems very helpful and friendly. Anyway I have never done anything like this before. I thaught you just put the chip in and away you go, boy was i mistaken. I guess I should of read up on this first. So now that my Xenium chip is installed and I turn my xbox on it just boots up to the Xenium OS menu which lets you flash the bios (which I havent done properly yet) and change settings and stuff like that. I have not loaded a dashboard on it or anything. I have tried flashing the bios with a cromwell bios, it loaded it onto the bios but all the cromwell screen says when it loads is "load cd to flash bios" so I guess that was the wrong thing to do or something. So I am trying to get the cromwell thing off now because it filled up all the banks. So when I get that off should I just burn a cd with the evox autoinstaller on it that I downloaded from this site? If so, is there any certain way that needs to be done? I know when you flash the bios you have to rename the files before you use nero to burn the cd. Do you need to do the same with the autoinstaller? If so could you give me the steps I need to take? I am sorry for all the questions, but I am new at this and have no idea what to do. I have read and read and cant seem to figure it out. Everything I read said to connect the xbox to a pc and I really dont know how to do that. Again thanks.

hi bkirby7375 lets see if we can help you understand a bit more..

The cromwell bios is a legal bios that is normally shipped with every modchip sold around the world.. Its used to let your xbox load linux or boot linux and turn your xbox into a linux pc NOTHING ELSE..

What you need to do first is this..
Get a hacked bios.. This will allow your xbox to boot LINUX and BACKUP GAMES.. Basically a hacked bios will just let you boot anything in .xiso format. Get One of the latest bioses you can find..
Check the VIP Downloads section. (you know where it is)

Just burn that bios onto a cd and flash your XENIUM with it.. Smile Just like you did for the cromwell bios.! Once its flashed that means you are ready to play BACKUPS or other APPS/EMUS and homebrew stuff on your xbox including booting autoinstallers..

Is that easy to understand.. Im hoping so..

anyway, Then to install a dashboard all you need to do is download the 'XBOX-HQ AUTOINSTALLER' which is crammed full of all the latest dashboards, apps, and some other cools utilities for your xbox like a webbrowser.. The XBOX-HQ AUTO INSTALLER is also in the VIP Downloads.

Burn the .iso to CDRW/DVD-R and boot it in your xbox.. Just follow the onscreen instructions and your xbox will be ready to go in a matter of minutes maybe seconds..

THIS AUTOINSTALLER is also useful for when you want to install a larger HDD into your xbox.. You just exchange your existing xbox hdd and then run the autoinstaller again from the CDRW/DVD-R you just burnt..

It will allow your to FORMAT/PARTITION or COPY and install dashboards to the new or EXISTING HDD in your xbox.

last thing:
The AUTOINSTALLER is always good if your xbox has any problems.. It can always reinstall all the files needed to get it booting again..

HOPE ive been some help and enjoy the xbox-hq.com website

Hey forahobby, you took the words right out of my mouth.

Don't worry man, you are not alone. Time and time again I have said the hardware part is probably the easiest of the mod. What you have to take into consideration is there are different versions of xbox's out there, different types of Dvd Drives, and each one reacts slightly different to different media types.

In the long run, you will end up with a killer console man....

The autoinstaller is a great idea for you though, like forahobby said. That thing will do everything for you.

Take your time and read up on some tutorials. You will be a pro in less than a month or so....it comes fast man. With the help of this site and everyone here, I have learned so much in less than three months.

I have asked some of the stupidest questions too...so don't hesitate to ask anything.

Keep us posted on your bios progress. Once you get your bios and apps loaded, we'll get you going with Emulation and XBMC.

Emulators will change the way you play your xbox, and XMBC will totally open you up to new entertainment options with your machine. Whether it's downloading and installing Anime, watching DivX movies, jamming to MP3's, or even checking your local weather and streaming radio and tv, there are so many benefits to XBMC.

later man!

Again thanks for all the info. I am getting ready to go pick my xbox up and try to get it working. I have a version 1 xbox i was just wondering which type of cd's would be best to use? I have been using cd-rw's. I know different drives read different types. Also as soon as I reset my chip (I guess I have to take apart the xbox and hit the reset switch) to get the bios that i installed off of there, I was wanting to know doesn't the autoinstaller have the bios and the dashboard both on there? If so all I have to do is burn it on a cd and load it and it should do everything, correct? Or do I have to get a bios and then use the auto installer?

Ok, got my xbox back I got the Xenium OS updated to 1.1. I then downloaded the auto installer I burnt it to a cd using nero, then nothing happened. Am I supposed to flash a bios or does the auto installer do that? If i do have to flash the bios which one should I use? I also still have that Cromwell 2.28 on my chip and it has filled up my banks, I have a total of 1MB of space and i have 4 different ways of setting them up, (2- 512 kb, or 4-256 kb and so on) any way no matter how i set them up and no matter which bank I choose it goes to the cromwell screen and it asks me for a bios to flash. I dont know what to do, this is driving me crazy, I just want to play a game again on my xbox. HHHEEELLLPPP!!!!!!!!!

The Xenium chip has a 1 meg flash rom chip which can hold up to four separate bios images. These come in multiples of 256k image files which allows you to have 4x256k images, 2x256k + 1x512k images, or 2x512k images, or even 1x1mb image. Each bios can be named individually as ell so if you have two versions of the cromwell bios you can keep them apart. My start up screen reads:

MS Dahsboard
Xecuter2 (then my version, see below)
Bank 2
Bank 3
Bank 4
yada yada
yada yada
Configuration

To see my boot screen, go here: http://www.northpointeauto.com/html/modgod/html/images/screenshot.html

I am assuming you know how to get to the flash screen.

From their you are probably going to have to go to the Bios/Bank Configuration menu.

From there you can flash or rename.

YOu will probably want to click on "bank modes" and then select your bank configuration, such as the 4x256k mode.

Select "flash bios" to open up a new menu. Here you select which bank you would like to flash the image onto as well as select where you would like to load the image. You press the "a" button to make your selections and the "b" button to go to previous menu.

The easiest way to load a bios is by putting it onto a compatible CD-RW disk and naming it bios.bin Depending on what dvd drive you have your selection of media will be crucial. THompsons are notorious for not being able to read CD-RW's. Samsungs are the best and Phillips can read some brands too.

You should also have at least a 50mb dummy file on the disk. This way, the dvd drive is sure to be able to read something. If you only have the 256k file on it, the dvd drive may not see it.

When you select program flash you will see the power eject light flash. Do not turn off the xbox while this is happening.

Once flashed with a "hacked bios" that you can find in our VIP download section you can then go back to the Bios/Bank configuration menu and select bank names menu. You can name it yourself or have it auto detect names.

Once you have a hacked bios on there, you will be able to run the autoinstaller successfully. Then if you want you can always just let the autoinstaller format your HD for you and load your dashboard and apps.

Good luck, keep us posted.
