First off this is a very impressive site. My question is that Im looking into modding my Xbox and I was wondering how the game to HD works? What I mean is when your Xbox is modded do you just go in through the chip and tell it to copy the game to your system? Will that work with this chip?
XBIT ModChip
The X-Bit Xbox ModChip is a completely solderless solution, compatible with all Xbox versions from all three territories, which can be enabled or disabled with a flick of a switch. The list of features is comprehensive, and bridges the gaps between several other MOD platforms. Transfer of files to the flash is handled by a built in USB controller, connected to your PC via a Mini USB cable (Included with MOD). A PC transfer program for sending flash files from the PC to the modchip is also included.
The features are : Product Features:
Plays every Import and Backup Game from any region.
Plays all homebrew (emulators, media player, mp3, divx.....)
2MB flash which can store a single 2MB flash or a mix of 256k,512k or 1MB BIOS
files (Possible total of six combinations).
Compatible with all Xbox versions.
Built in programmer, for sending flash files from PC to Xbit modchip.
Flashing operations controlled by onboard HID compliant USB controller.
Optional connectors with pre-prepared wire, for those that wish to connect the modchip by soldering.
Disable and Enable Switch, MOD status LED indicator and a Mini USB connector
(for flash file transfer) on an external “control panel”.
Multi-Bios support.
Optional Eject switch reset, requires soldering only 1 wire.
All Modchips packaged in anti-static bags for prevention of ESD damage.
PC flash file transfer software included.
Slick PC software G.U.I. allows easy interface to device.
Mini USB cable included.
Colour coordinated PCB’s.
High quality branded components.
Please note that the MODS are “flash free”, the user chooses and programs the flash of his choice to the mod using the in-built USB programming system and included Mini-USB cable.
I dont really want to burn the games. I want to actually put them into the Xbox hard drives as back ups. Does this work this way? And with this chip?
Thanks alot. I apprecaite any help with this. Mark

Hi Slamscaper and welcome to xbox-hq..
Ok..
Any modchip will allow you to boot games of your XBOX HARD DRIVE..
So just pick which modchips features you like and go for it.
You can install a program called pxHDDLOADER or DVD2XBOX and it will copy directly from the DVD ROM drive to your XBOX HARD DRIVE..
Its very straight forward once you have a modded machine..
anyway, hope you get it going soon.. We have a few guys here with xeniums too so if you need help just ask!

Ok so then how do I get one of those like DVD2XBOX to my Xbox? I guess when the mod chip is intstalled I go through the Xbox itself through the internet capability with an ethernet cable? Sorry about my ignorance in this subject. But thanks for any help.

You have two ways to get it to your xbox once the machine is modded. You will also benefit from a larger Hard Drive as the stock xbox only holds about 5Gig or so.
You can either FTP the program over to your xbox using your PC and a program called FLASHFXP. Or, you can download a self installer that will do a lot of the work for you That is the choice I would recommend.
Basically, a self installer will format/partition your hard drive for you It can install different bios', apps, and your dashboard.
Self installers are not very easy to come by unless you know proper channels. Your best bet is to become a VIP member here and visit the VIP download section. We have a very new installer that one of the Admins here made. DJB's self installer is based off of the Slayers self installer and has an impressive list of attributes.
To give you a little tech info so you better understand how your modded machine works follows:
Your chip will be programmed with a bios. This bios will allow your xbox to do certain things that the stock bios that Microsoft installed won't. Such as play DVD's without the dongle, run applications that you FTP to your hard drive. Applications like forahobby mentioned. All you modchip does is by pass the Microsoft bios and allow you to run the machine the way you see fit.
Right now, if you were to try to install software on your HD, your xbox wouldn't be able to launch it. The reason is the bios that MS has will just not allow it. That is the whole reason for a modchip. Once chipped and software installed you will be able to back up games directly to your HD. FTP them over to your PC so you can burn to disk for backup. DVD Burner will be needed to backup your games to a disk. You will be able to launch programs like Xbox Media Center (XBMC). This program will allow you to play full divx movies on your xbox, play MP3's, internet radio streams, all kinds of goodies. Plus, with a chip you will be able to install emulators that allow you to play other consoles games like PS1, GameBoy Advance, Nintendo 64, and Mame Emulators. Mame stands for "Multiple Arcade Machine Emulation". You can actually download and install real coin operated arcade games onto your xbox. These can either run off of a disk or off of your HD how ever you choose. The point it...modded xbox's rock!
Do take warning though. If you are a person who is subscribing or is considering subscribing to xbox live, you will have to take some things into consideration. First, make sure you have a chip that can be switched off. If MS catches you logging in with a modded machine, they will ban you and our machine from live..indefinitely. Some chips have on off toggle switches, others just have different boot methods to avoid this. MS does have the ability to read your HD content too, so who's to say that in the future they don't ban machines due to HD size. Right now, according to some people they are banning due to HD size. I personally haven't found anything to confirm that is happening. Good luck in what way you decide to go. If you have any other questions, just post. We are more than happy to help.
Well, hopefully you are a little more clear on what you can do once your machine is chipped.

Another dumb question. When you play a game that has been loaded onto your Xbox can you still save your progress even though your not using the game disc?. Thanks for the help.

Another one. I forgot to ask this one. The question is when you put a game on the HD how much room does it take up normally? Thanks.

Yes, you can still save your game normally just like if it was in the tray. And, if you end up putting a disk in the tray and resave, it saves in the same area so doesn't matter if you play from the HD or disk.
As far as how much space, it varies. I have a 120 GIG HD. I have 26 Xbox games backed up to HD, about 600 Emulators on the HD, and a ton of apps. I still have approximately 40 Gig to go.
Some games are less than a gig, others are more than 5 or 6 gigs. I would say if I had to average out all my games, 3 gig would be safe. Don't forget, if your HD starts to get full all you have to do is FTP the game to your PC. You can store it there (depending on your PC HD available space) or back it up to a disk (providing you have a DVD burner). _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter
