hello again
I am going to use Slayer's auto-install as soon as I get my chip and I also want to go ahead and put an 80G HD in my 'box.
What came first the chicken or the egg? This question best illustrates my question.
Do I have to flash the bios before installing EvoX and formatting the HD or should I install and format and then flash?
I am getting the Xecuter 2.3 Lite+. _________________ XBOX v1.1 - Philips DVD

Hey Dude,
first a little history. As you probably know the reason why xbox's cannot normally boot copied stuff is because the default.xbe which is run by the xbox on all games/apps needs to be signed by microsoft. This is due to the BIOS and dashboard on the the xbox, and when you install a modchip the BIOS on the mod takes over. This does not need a signiture on the XBE and thus allows copied games and apps. You then install a dash so you can run of HD and run games without having to reboot all the time.
But as said it's the BIOS which runs the show at power on and you need a BIOS which will load the dashboard you choose if your gonna run it off the HD. If you gonna run evox I would recommend the X2 4983 lastest BIOS, which you will need to get on the modchip. You can do this few ways, using either the LPC port on the PC or the external programmer. Or the modchip should come with a modifed cromwell BIOS which will allow you to flash from CD in the xbox if it has a file called BIOS.BIN. Once you have done this you can whack in the installer CD and reboot and then install everything. As you are installing a new HD you should make a backup of your HD by FTPing C: and E: to your PC. Then install the new drive and select format from menu. Then just FTP the C and E back over as well as the latest evox build to your C drive setting up evox.ini as you see fit
Hope I have helped

since this is my first attempt at modding and xbox i have decided to use slayer's auto installer. i have read the instructions and read-me pdf 3 times each to make sure i know what i am doing.
i hope the process will go smoothly.
this site is great. i've never been to a forum where questions get answered without flames, etc. i might just have to become a lifetime member... _________________ XBOX v1.1 - Philips DVD
