Hi takenover and all the other guys.
Well all i have to add to topic is the following points:
- HQ is a very costly hobby site to run especially for bandwidth/server costs.
- Without VIP Donations the site would have been shut in 2004 after only 12 months.
- At its current state there is no way we could survive without vip's.. Its just not possible.. We are ranked 5/10 with googlepage rank and high in all other search engines worldwide.
- All Admin's work normal jobs etc and sacrifice their spare time to help our members.. Not like some other sites. I myself am a webdeveloper and am currently out of work.. I cant even afford to pay my car rego without having to borrow money (lol..)..
- HQ is just lucky enough to pay for its current hosting and bandwidth.. We do not charge $1000USD for a banner so therefore VIP members must donate to help keep the site online.
When you donate to become a VIP Member on HQ you are NOT buying anything.. You are donating to become part of our family.. As a bonus you gain access to our vip downloads and other vip servers which our guys have setup..
We have built more a family then a community.. There is a difference..
You will learn this im sure.. DJB, I and all other admins are very close and would do just about anything to help a member here..
HQ is currently hosting over 15GB of Xbox Homebrew applications and pc software.. We only offer a small portion for free otherwise our bandwidth would be even more then its current state 400-700gb p/month.
The site not sell anything apart from our own custom Tshirts, and Jewels..
We sell these items to cover costs for purchasing prizes for our competitions etc etc and for large bandwidth bills..
If you havent noticed recently xbox-hq.com has had a facelift too and i can guarantee you that there is NOT another xbox modding website with the amount of data and custom scripts as our own site.. I have made sure of that personally with the sleepless nights of coding...
With the release of the new 360 site you can imagine your vip privelages are only going to get better too.. hehehhe

This site isnt much better, they force a donation to just access the servers which hold the software. Why not just make it a option, instead of forcing it apon the members. Xbox-scene has survived all this time without forcing anything apon anybody.
You could host SID on xbins and anything that is big can be shared via bittorent.
Dont turn a blind eye to your own money making ways... and I hardly believe all the so called DONATIONS *all* go towards the site.
Dont get me wrong, I like this site and gave a donation, but I do see it could of been different and the site still could survive.

WHY AM I KEEPING THIS POST ALIVE!!!??? AHHHHH!!!!! Oh, right, I can't keep my mouth shut... So here comes my two cents...
I went to the Xbox-Scene website a couple of times.... Honestly, I haven't been there now in over 6-8 months... Lemmie tell you why...
Before I found the wonderful SID, I softmodded my box the hard way. Finding the PBL, grabbing Bert and Ernie... it was all a wonderful pain in the f00kin ass. Now, being as how XS rates higher in the googlesearch (especially then) I went to the XS, expecting a semi-friendly modding community...
I got the community... didn't get the semi-friendly. I mean, it wasn't like I was asking how to turn my damned xbox on! But no, these blokes were giving me the usual runaround of "You dumb n00b, did you try this?" or "oh, that's such a n00bish question, I'm not even gonna answer that I'm so great". I chit you not, just because I was new in the scene (this was early 2005) I was being scoffed and laughed at.
Sorry I've been poor a majority of my life.
So, after much more frstration, and searching "The usual places" (GODDAMNIT I HATE THAT PHRASE!!!!!) I stumbled upon THIS site. NOw, when I stumbled upon it at first, I wasn't too flabberghasted... I had just been to the XS, and their layout was, (Sorry hobbs) a bit better. And I saw the 10 dollar thing...
I thought, hell, probably sponsered by porn, etc... I give ten dollars, I get a special "F00k you" with donation... The XS had ruined all my opinion of any other modding site.
So, after looking around, and finding... NO banners for anything other than a couple of legit games... I read through the forums... God, I hated forums then... I saw dumbasses just like me struggling through the modding world and just taking their first baby steps....
Holy hell... I wasn't the only moron like i thought I was!
Now, I'm an admin, and a self proclaimed softmod expert... Not that I could ever write that code... Hell no... that's hard... I'm a wuss... I'll leave that to the masters DJB and Nknave (great job, m8s!).
Out of their thousands of dollars in advertising, has XS ever written their own software to contribute to the scene? Have they ever compiled a auto installer or a softmod installer deluxe to help out? No, not that I've ever seen. Every time I've been to their damned site, it was ridiculing and vicious hatred...
How do you build a strong community on that?
So, to try and cut this longass post short, all I'm saying is, a lot of hard ass work went into this site, and it's come a LONG way, even in the short time I've been here. But even after only being here a couple of HOURS, I realized that I COULD have asked "How do I turn on my xbox" and someone would have helped... Not ridiculed.
Tell me that's not a family!
So in my opinion, f00k xbox scene and their attitude towards building a strong modding comminuty. THIS is my family, and THIS is where I'M GOING TO STAY.

Angelos, that brought a tear to my eye (or perhaps it's just indigestion).
It's a shame this thread was hijacked to this point when originally it did (and I guess still does sorta) have a valid reason for it's exisitence. Wading through 6 pages just to pick up the point again though is a little much.
If someone sees AID or SID on Ebay or any other auction site, let us know. It's important. Start a new thread for this one is just too damn long.
To sum this thread up, people sell AID and SID (bad guys), we catch flack for donations because people think we sell AID and SID (bad guys), admins and end users of the site get point across (good guys). Original poster decides life is good and perhaps didn't quite have all the facts (light goes on, bad guy becomes good guy).
Roll credits, end of story.
Please let this thread die in peace.
