I tried to swap a new disc (seagate 160GB) but when i conect it the xbox have the error 6.... i tried to swap it again but the option "build a new xbox hd from scratch" is disabled...
I searched in the web and I have seen that I have to unlock the drive in the original motherboard.... but this is impossible....

if you have the original drive in the xbox, use AID or SID4 to backup the eeprom. Now copy this to the EEPROM folder under your XBHDM. THen copy all your backup stuff to the C E and F drives respectively, or just leave the C Drive backup on the disc and FTP everything over later.
Now once this is all said and done, burn the ISO, boot up with the NEW hard drive connected as master on your computer, and the disc in your drive. (for safe measures disable the hard drive detection in your BIOS, that will save time from doing it later). Then follow the instructions to build a new drive. Make sure after the drive is formatted and prepared, you boot linux with the hard drive locking/unlocking utilities and lock the drive using the "lockhd -a" command. This will use the EEPROM from the EEPROM folder on your disc, and lock it to the motherboard your old Hard drive was in.
Once that's all done, pop the 160 into your xbox, reset your BIOS settings on your computer blah blah. Boot up the xbox and you should either be greeted with your modded dash (if not using a backup from SID 4.5) or the MSdash. If it's the MSDash, then just resoftmod using your xploit, and you're good to go. Then FTP your backup over (if you didn't put it into your XBHDM disc). _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."

i've tried disconnecting my dvddrive in various method and all i get is error 12. is there a way to get past?
also..i had 2 seperate encounter that surprised me.
first is that my windows boot up and it detects the western digital harddrive! but b4 i knew it..it's gone.
Second occassion, i tried booting xboxhdm, it went thru (instead of primary drive failure) and after i press 1 at xboxhdm page...it loads till a point and pc reboots itself.
what am i donig wrong. do i really need a mod chip?

might be as easy as checking the jumper settings on your hard drive! _________________ <iframe src="http://gamercard.xbox.com/BiGGDoGGFreSH.card" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" height="140" width="204">Put your gamertag here too.</iframe>

Hi. Thank you for your replies on thread. so if i have error 12, is there any timing issue i need to be aware of? and if i plug out my entire drive (including power cable), will it still work?
also, there's a odd thing tt happened when i set jumper on drive to master. i tried connecting and it doesn't read my drive even though its connecting to primary master. i had to keep jumper to cs for xboxhdm to run.(though system reboots itself after loading vga mode)

got my harddrive reinstalled! here's what you do if you have an error 16 and error 12 when u plug out ur cdrom.
1) boot up xbox with cables unplugged frm cdrom drive.
2) juz when the indicator on xbox starts flashing, pull off ide cable frm xbox. (drive is unlocked)
3) plug it into ur pc with power cord still attached from xbox to harddrive
4) run xboxhdm the usual way
5) or you can follow my method (esp when ur xboxhdm dun work..like my case)
i) boot up with pc harddrive on primary master and xbox hdd on secondary master.
ii) run xplorer360 and transfer all the required files. (takes a long time though)
iii) once done, unplug ide cable off the harddrive and plug it back to xbox(with xbox still running) remember to set ur jumper to as it is.
iv) power off xbox once all the required steps' done.
