Well, I've got the box ripped apart into a hundred pieces right now, so I might as well put the new lights in while it's open.
CXM, those sound perfect, and much easier than putting 4 LEDs where 2 are supposed to go. How much for 'em? (In US dollars)
Also, if I'm not mistaken, I think I read somewhere that you can damage the contacts by desoldering too much. I don't want to F this thing up, but if I do, could I get a replacement from either of you guys? Again, how much for it?
Also also, I'm trying to do all the actual work myself, but if I can't get it, how much do you guys charge if I send you my board and have you put the lights in it?
Also ALSO also, you know that little panel you can take off the front panel? That goes over the eject and power buttons? I'm looking to get a translucent blue one of those. Any chance of that happening?
Thanks guys. You're the best.

Nevermind the first question, CXM. I found 'em on your site. I also found a site that has the same thing for a bit cheaper... maybe 'cause they're in the US.
I got the old LEDs desoldered just fine, and ordered some replacements. That install should go fine.
I really want that translucent blue front panel, though, and I have no idea where to start looking. If no one sells just single parts like that, or if no one even makes that part in that color, can anyone think of any way to come up with something similiar that still looks professional? I don't want a whole clear case, just that one panel...

Hiya
yeh I can do them cheaper for you, I charge less than most people on ebay in the uk, led are expensive here, our equivalent to your radio shack sells one white led for £2.99. Plus I add the tutorial which most don't. Any probs let me or RM know and im sure one of us could sort something out.
Im reducing the bi-colour led's soon as I was able to buy a huuuuge batch of them, tho my mother will prob buy most off me.
About the panel, i think you will struggle, they exist in a hole case, so maybe find someone who will split itm not too likley tho

Here's what stinks about those translucent cases, the fronts don't have the little extra part for the Eject/Power board. It's the part that illuminates from the LED's... the transparent ring sticks out of the Eject button hole a little bit and is what actually glows from the LED's. Well, the aftermarket panel fronts do not have any room allocated for that little piece. So all you get are your LED's glaring out of the front. It looks okay, but not as good as the button lighting up.
I have a blue case top/front .
Here is what it looks like after it's lit up with LED's, Jewel Rings, and El Tape for the underglow effect.

I use www.LEDtronics.com for everything LED
They have every type of LED for every type of project I have taken on.
I found them when I needed several minature surface mounted ultra bright blue LEDs. They have EVERYTHING, I shit you not.
Example here is a link to the RGB LED I want to use for the HDD switching circuit I am making for the Xtender.
http://www.ledtronics.com/ds/dis1024/
They even have a FULL SPECTRUM RGB LED that emits infared...
If its been made and its an LED, they have it. They also provide full spec sheets so I know how it will act with my circuit before I order it. Most places have spec sheets for only every other LED.
I sound like I work for thoes guys the way I talk about them. Though Im real specific about where I order my ICs and other components for my prototypes.
Theres my input... _________________ -Scourge "Rx = +/_\"

Thanks for the input, guys.
I've pretty much given up on the idea of finding a translucent blue front panel. I'll have to settle for having a blue underglow, though I might drill a few holes in my face plate to let some more light come through.
I'll let you guys know whan I have more questions...

I have never fitted an aftermarket case, it's easier to buy crystal over here than the black ones now and they all the same price, plus they have the eject led prism
