Hey guys, I need some help with my xbox. I softmodded it a while back and now it has somehow "un-softmodded" itself. And oddly enough, when I turn it on It loads into the network settings menu. I press B to navigate back to the dashboard but the screen turns white and just brings be back to the network settings menu. In order to play games, I press B and the screen turns white and the games load up. It plays games just fine. I'm not sure what happened.... Any ideas on how I can either recover the xbox dashboard or softmod it again from this stage?

Which softmodded dashboard were you using? UnleashX, EvolutionX or XBMC?
Where is the dashboard installed on the C or E drive?

I might suggest grabbing a copy of SPPV's XBMC 3.2.2 Installer:

http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=1406

If you use it, read the accompanying documentation. Burn the disk iso at a speed of 8x, nothing more, nothing less on a good quality DVD disk. Imgburn program is recommended if you are using windows.

It can install XBMC, Evox or UnleashX as a dashboard and overwrite your old one. Another alternative you might wish to consider is installing the "shadow C" option. It hides the content of your C drive so important files are not erased. However if uses UnleashX as the dash. Provided you have the hard drive space, XBMC or Evox can be installed as E drive applications.

SPPV has the most experience, so I suggest considering his responses over mine if we differ in our approach. He might recommend his new installer called babylon instead.

Welcome to xbox hq! Hope you enjoy the site. Everyone was really friendly here so I've stuck around since softmodding my first console Wink

EDIT:

At the very least if you do burn SPPV's XBMC installer pop it in your dvd drive and backup your EEPROM file pronto if you haven't already! If worst comes to worst and your console's software doesn't work, you can always reformat an HDD with babylon's custom Xboxhdm program (which requires your console's EEPROM file)

Hope my text didn't overwhelm you. Just wanted to get all my suggestions out.

Grab Babylon, it can cover you better than XBMC Installer can.

Pop in the disc, turn the xbox off and back on. If the mod is intact it will boot. Then click on EEPROM backup, then hit move to E, then return to main menu. Click on Mods and choose the one you want.

If it doesnt boot the disc, follow the Babylon1 Tut included to create an XBOXHDM disc (you can ignore the ISO it makes for now) Now pop in the game you used to mod the XBOX and go to the Installer. Now FTP into the XBOX and copy the contents of C\Babylon\xboxhdm\linux\pimped\C to your XBOXs C partition, overwriting the old contents. Then copy C\Babylon\xboxhdm\linux\pimped\E to your xboxs E partition overwriting the old files. Reboot your XBOX, remove the game, and you should be good.

If you previously hard or softmodded your xbox, the babylon disk should work just like a game if you pop it into the console, turn off the console and turn it back on with the game already in the dvd drive.

Have you already burned the full disk image of babylon onto a dvd-r with ImgBurn at 8x yet?

It should probably work, I've had previous luck burning AID and SPPV's XBMC installer 3.2.2 isos. Give it a try and report back if it doesn't.

We're here to help

Hotswap time then. Follow the Babylon1 tutorial included with Babylon to make an XBOXHDM disc. Burn it at 8X to a DVD or 24x to a CD then follow this video. Ignore the bit about using Pimped CD Edition. Babylon will work fine in its place.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEjqWK5HG28

Watch it on Youtube so you can see it fullscreen. (No "helpful" people change the link to a vid its a link on purpose)

Thats a burn/DVD-ROM issue. Ive had it many times over the years with irtualy every XBOXHDM installer Ive ever made. I fixed it by switching to using DVD's made by RITE-K and using my Pioneer DVD-RW drive instead of my Benq drive. My Benq would kick that error using Rite-K discs bured at 4x but my Pioneer would read em like a nerd champ Very Happy Thats why I say 8x for DVD cause all my drives (HP, BENQ, Hitachi-LG and Pioneer) read the 8x burned discs.

Pop a blank disc into your PC and open ImgBurn. Look where it says Manufacturer ID. If it doesnt say Rite-K you need other discs (I sugest Maxell as they are easily available and made by Rite-K). If it says Rite-K then t means the read error is your DVD drive.

For CD my tests were done excluively using Philips CD-r. I do have a Pimped CD Edition burned to a Verbatim CD-r so logicaly they work fine too. Pimped is AutoBuilders little brother, and Babylon1 can be be seen as AutoBuilder5.2. So compatability between the 3 far as media goes should be a constant. Exploit wise its guaranteed since all 3 use my unofficial edits to SID and NKP.

Ok so if DVD's fail to read use a CD and a barebones build. Delete the contents of C:\Babylon\XBOXHDM\Linux\Pimped\C and E then run the Babylon1.exe again. This time pick Regular Softmod, single-boot-XBMC for dash and No to emulators and apps. And burn it to a CD-r at 24x with ImgBurn.
