i just want to make a suggestion on a dvd burner
i recently purchased NEC ND-3500AG its a dual format double layer burner
16x +r/16x -R for $75 shipped , i flashed it with latest hacked firmware from TDK , they basically have the same drive advertised as a different model ,
the hacked firmware has the dvd rip lock removed , its region free and can burn double layer ritek discs @ 4x ...
so far i have copied over 70 dvds burned at 16X on Taiyo Yuden 8x dvd+r discs ,full dvd takes a little over 6 minutes to burn , also have burned about 10 xbox games on dvd-r @ 8x all work , so far not a 1 coaster
i wasnt able to find any dvd-r media that can be burned at over 8x yet,
the only thing i dont like about this drive is that if you burn @ 8x , it doesnt actually start burning at 8x untill it reaches 2.3Gb ,
besides that , its a really good dvd burner , really fast too , i would recommend it if you are on a budget and want all the bells and whistles ..
+ 4x double layer burning , where else can u get that for this price ?
...ohh and also when you burn dvds with nero it will automatically set the book type to dvd-rom for better compatibility with dvd players ,
plus you can change the book type with a little software if you want to burn your xbox games in the dvd-rom format ,
really great stuff

i purchased my drive from newegg.com
but if u check pricewatch youll find them at 70 shipped at the moment from other places , i like newegg , fast and reliable ,
yes its a internal drive , i dont know if there is an external version out ,
i did not try burning xbox games in double layer format couse im too cheap to spend $10 on a dl dvd disc ,
but if i do , ill let you know if the burn was successful or not ,

no , it didnt come with any software if it did i wouldnt use it anyway ,
i use alcohol 120% for burning all my images and nero for everything else

The cheapest is 72.99, most expensive $75.

pick whatever color you want , its all the same drive ,
one more thing before you decide to purchase ,
remember there are only few brands of dvds u can burn at 16x to
one of them is Taiyo Yuden , which is what i use , 8x dvd+r
another thing , for burning at 12 and 16X i would really recommend a computer with a raid , i have only one harddrive and i cant even browse
the web while the dvd is burning couse the harddrive can not supply the data fast enought , .....so the burn speed slows down untill the buffer is full again , .....
just thought you should know that

Unfortunately the only RAID in my house is under the kitchen sink. While the Array of products under there is rather Redundant, I don't think it's gonna help me burn any faster Oh well, I'm patient!
Just finished purchasing it at www.newegg.com so we'll see how she goes! Paid $78 total including shipping... I threw caution to the wind and invested an extra $1.01 for the software, but not the extra $2.99 for expedited procesing. I won't be able to hook 'er until next week, most likely.
Where do I get that firmware upgrade you mentioned, and, in simple terms, what will it allow me to do???

you can find the book type change utilities at the first link posted here,
before flashing remove any disc that might be in the drive and disable your antivirus software if u have it , but the extracted bios in the same folder as the flash app ,
