Thought I might share something really useful I had to try the other day, which I hadn't tried for ages. I rented out a few XBOX discs from a reputable high street rental chain and they refused to play correctly, scratches and dirt all over them.

So I tried an old ruse I remembered from a few years back. I polished them up with wax car polish plain variation Turtle Wax, left them to dry for about 2 mins, polished them up and presto worked like a charm.

This has worked 90% of the time, but I had a few DVD discs that would not polish up. Does anyone else have any advice on how best to clean up discs to get them to read OK?

I have been using a home made buffing mcahine at my store for over 6 years. It consists of a drill press, a platform with a lazy susanne bearing, cork, and a rubber grommet. Mount this oplatform to the drill press table. Mount the lazy su bering in the corner of the platform. Then cut the cork out to the size of a cd. Take that cork and adhease it to the lasy su. Some bearings are square and the cvorners will need to be cut off, or this will be dangerous. Using a small screw, install the grommet dead center. This grommet needs to be the perfect for for the hole in cd's. You can pick and choose what you use to buff with but I buy 5" polishing kits from walmart for $6.
