... is happening.
Quick background:
-Yesterday went to upgrade my XMBC but screwed something up.
-Went to do soft mod. Seemed to get it to work. Then screwed things up on the XBMC upgrade again.
-Through many iterations of tutorials and such, ended up TOTALLY screwing things up to the point where I couldn't even get MechAssault to see my memory card to do the software mod.
-Just at the 11th hour got the drive recovered using pirrup's tutorial. Now, I've got a normal xbox, no mod... ready for a fresh start.
So, now I got up again this mornign to do the softmod, and none of the steps have appeared to work right. Following this tutorial:

When I used AID to re-install the MS Dash (I'm assuming this is the 5680 version that SID is referring to patching), the xbox wont' even boot up normal. What's weird is, I actually see the normal XBox dash JUST start to come up, and then the Error 21 code comes up. Anyone seen this?
Also, applying the 5980 patch just does not seem to be working. Whenever I reboot after the last step I get error 21. The softmod is still there because I can get into AID, but no dash seems to work. I installed EvoX to the C drive.
Is there some SUPER fresh way of installing everything that I dont' know about?
As an aside, when I DO want to upgrade XBMC. I assume I overwrite the XBMC folder with the new version. OVerwrite the xboxmediacentre.xml file with the new one. But what do I call teh <RENAME ME>.xbe file? Do I overwrite that evoxdash.xbe file? This is what seemed to bite me before.

Every once and a while i come accross a xbox that does this when softmodding using whatever..
I find i sometime get the actual softmod install fine but when i try to patch the M$ Dash it just throughs out the good old E21 code..
In the end i ended up ftping into the console while AIDELUXE was booted on the xbox.. I manually fixed the dashboard by ftping over.
