To start out with I found out that I had one of the hard drives that had the 10 gigs, I tried to get it. I ended up unlocking the hard drive, I have since learned all about that, but I'm still stuck with a unlocked hard drive cause i didn't have a backup of the eeprom. So from there I decided to buy a modchip to fix my xbox, and got the spiderchip, thinking it would be a good one to use to quickly lock the HD and be back on my softmodded way again.
So then I installed it like it said to in my ver. 1 xbox, and every time I try to boot it with the modchip installed, whether I have the on switch to the 'on' poistion or not, it seems to reboot 3 times then comes up flashing red and green and having the service is needed error message. Does anyone know what I should do now?

My guess your chip is not correctly installes. Is it a solderless or not? _________________ Xenium Ice 2.3.1 OS

Yep, the flashing red and green lights, or "christmas lights" means you didn't position your chip or your solderless (i assume) adapter correctly. Try re-positioning it and then see where that gets ya. _________________ XBOX v1.6c

Well, it's the spiderchip, so as far as I know, it's already solderless. But what I'm saying is that it reboots 3 times then it does that, if it's not connected then it just gives the lights. As far as I knew I thought that modchips weren't supposed to do that. Even if it is installed wrong.

Hi Seraku. I also just purchased a spider chip. The first time I booted mine, did the same thing. Reset 3 times then lights. Come to find out my dumbass didnt put the spacer on and I tightened it too much. I put the spacer on and lossened it. I tightened it less and then booted that worked for me.

Oh, thats just great. My motherboard is off center, and that's why it wont screw down into the right place, now imma have to take the motherboard out and do something with it.

It had nothing to do with the motherboard being off, I was able to get that screw hole much more centered than it was. The spiderchip's screwhole is a tad off relative to the xbox's screwhole. Even so, I was able to push the modchip over while screwing it down, and now it lights up everytime, and it still does the 3-reboot thing. I've tried all manner of repositioning and combination and placement of the three washers (well two and this one funny looking one) including leaving some out, right now only the oddly-shaped one is not being used. It's still giving me that problem though. Any ideas?

no ... i have used a spider chip ever since they FIRST came out and despite what everyone says. I love my spiderchip, and use it quite frequently. If it boots the three times and still does not work take out the chip. and WATCH the pogo pins as you place the chip on the solderfilled holes on your 1.0 mobo. and MAKE SURE!!! THe bottom ones are still on and IN THE SOLDER!! THats what usually causes this problem is the last two pins for the security. Anywho if this still fails to work then take a really sharp metal object (i use tweezers) and indent the solder in the holes and make a hole in the solder so your spider chip is GAURANTEED to stay in the holes it nees to. If you still need help shoot me a PM. BELIEVE ME i know how frustating a spiderchip can be lol.
*edit* just use the screw that the mobo used to keep the spider chip down (no spacers needed) just a little trick *edit* _________________ Blue Chaos

Well it still doesn't work. I tried all of what you said, and I also dont see how using the motherboard screw would help, because then it wont be tightly screwed in, and if I screw it tight, it ends up just bringig the modchip screwhole and the motherboard close together. Also I can't really see the two pins further in to tell weather its touching or not.

sometimes the screw they provide strips the holes! so the mobo screw ensures that it doesnt do that ... and the point is to bring the modchip as close to the mobo as possible so make sure the points get stuck in the solder of the LPC holes. try pushing down on the chip when you looking at it to make sure the pogo line up. then as you're holding it, screw in the chip no matter how weird the setup feels and twists. As long as its still in the holes it doesnt matter. If this still doesnt work .... lol do you want me to make a video for ya on what I do? I can do that if you want me to. If that still doesnt work, if you were really getting mad at it, you can have a friend try putting it in or something. hope it works, and keep me updated! _________________ Blue Chaos

Hi, I hade similar problems when installing my GX chip,
I changed the screw to longer and bigger one , so it can
grip properly.
That way the pogo ping finally get conncetion from the
MOBO. with the original 1 or 2 the pins where bearly
above the conncetion points ...
After i got it working i succeeded with something else.. see my other
topic....
