Hey guys and gals!
I've pulled the jewel off my xbox in prep for a replacement. You guessed it an eighty mil fan. Has anyone heard of this being done befor? I would really like to find a tutorial and see how people have gone about it. I know it will probly not serve much purpose but i think if i do it right it would look perddy. What fan would you recommend using? Suggestions of some styles and colours would help. I'm thinking a white one of these but i don't know what cover to get for it. What would be the best way of powering a 12V DC? Also could anyone suggest some points i may have over looked that would hinder the mod in any way. Thanks for any help.

Yeah thanks Pred! I remember seeing that to over at xbox-scene aswell but i never though of having a look. The wiring should pretty much be the same so it helps me to know that that part of the mod can be done. I just hope i can get it to sit low enough so it doesn't stick out like dogs balls. It might take me awhile (going away for MORE training tomorrow) but i'll definately keep you guys posted. Thanks again. _________________ X3_1892

heheh lol.. Good call.. If you see halouser about ask him for some advice. he does some mad case mods for himself and has some nice pics and info on his website here: http://halouser.xbox-hq.com
Exhaust fan has been done numerous times, but it's actually pointless (as an exhaust fan). Look at what's under the jewel.... The IDE cable, hdd caddy and DVD caddy will hinder any airflow you were hoping to get.
You can add an LED fan with a LED grill for a nice look, but it won't do much if you want to use if for cooling purposes.

Thanks forahobby. Yeah i had a look at some of halouser's mods prior to joining here. The bloke has some talent i'll give him that! I wish i could just get an idea and just put it to work as easy as he seems to.
Alex yep, your right. As i said it will probly not serve much purpose, but think of this mod as like putting a spoiler on your street driven hyundai. (or hiundies as i like to call em) You know that thing isn't going to make it go any better. But jeez it looks fast. _________________ X3_1892

thanks guys, im so flattered . the best advice i can give you is to just try it. i can give you this advice. if you put alot of thought into an idea or a project you will like the out 95% of the time. im not sure if i have ever seen a fan mounted on the top, but if you spend enough time, and plan properly it will look good. you can only learn by practice. good luck! _________________ wetbox rusty pc

Yeah your right. It's the first time i've ever tryed to do anything like this. It won't be a masterpiece by any means but i've had fun doing it thats for sure. I can see it's going to be a little rough around the edges and this fan is going to stick out a bit but I don't mind. I ended up getting a fan the same as the one on the back of your current project wetbox but smaller (92mm). That thing is a masterpiece to by the way. Cheers for taking the time to share it with us. So yeah i really need a fan cover so it don't look so hideous. Any ideas?

if you take out this part of the dvd and hdd tray you can get a little air flow out of the fan but you lose one mounting screw for the hdd
