I'm wondering if its possible to play DVDs in progressive scan 480p (at least/most I don't care)
what would I need to do to my xbox to enable this? afaik the Xbox is perfectly capable of playing DVDs in that mode, just handcuffed from the factory... what can I do to get past that?

Hey man, welcome to the site.
If you are using the HDTV packet and just watching DVD connected via the component cables, are you getting a 480p pic or is it still interlaced.
I always wondered about that. I will do some checking for you as you are correct, it is well capable since it can display games in HD with the HDTV cabling package. I have played games in 720p and 1080i so 480p should be a piece of cake.
Do you currently have the HDTV cabling pack? _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

actually I'm using the X2VGA+ adapter to display it on my monitor... works very nicely with games... but with DVD it displays 480i which gets chopped and horrible (how it looks when viewing the Dashboard is the same way when watching a DVD instead... ouch) I dunno if HDTVs can display the 480i with no problem... but with the X2VGA+ adapter computer monitors take a crap with 480i
From what I've read around Microsoft only allows the DVDs to be displayed in 480i when it is a perfectly capable progressive scan DVD player... I'm just trying to figure out HOW do get it to do that...
If I could afford a HDTV i'd be happy... but all that money went to my PC a long time ago lol

BTW Thanks for looking into this... I'm a noob when it comes to messing with my X-Box... but I do believe I'm competent enough to get done what needs to get done Its just finding the information I need to do just what I want and nothing more...
I.E. I don't want to turn my Xbox into a Linux PC, I just want to be able to play DVDs in something other than 480i lol
And no I don't play on Live! (read stuff about Microsoft's hardware fingerprints... why must they be so difficult?)
Also, while you're at it... do you know if its possible to at least have a mouse attached to the Xbox to be used with say, Halo instead of the joysticks on the gamepad?

Hey Aphelion79
I had a look around for you on weather or not you xbox will let you play with a mouse.
Well from what i can see there is some good news and some bad news.
Yes it is indeed possiable to attach a mouse to your xbox but on the down side (and i could be wrong someone correct me if i am) you would only be able to use it if you install linux on you xbox.
So it looks like you won't be able to use it to play games. Sorry
If you are interested in attaching a mouse to your xbox you will need a USB adapter which you can get from Ebay.
Hope this helps
